How much should a 1988 Esprit Turbo with 88K good service history, in good condition recent belts, V8 Spolier etc go for? I'm looking to buy but have no idea what sort of value as the price I have been offered seems good and after looking round the web they seem to vary so much. I'm looking for a ball park figure, not exact.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Is it a red one?

It's well priced if it's in good condition but the spoiler isn't matched that well to the rest of the paint, I'd have it taken off...

Well its less than your bottom figure, interior is very good had it retrimmed, paint is also pretty good odd stone chip, needs new indicator lens on front, new front tyre due to side wall and the rear discs look scored. other than that it looks clean. Tells me it has just had belts done and I can see there new. He also has paperwork to back it up. I'm tempted but dont want to buy myself X amount of trouble.

it's always difficult to tell how much expence you are going to let yourself in for but I budget on 2K+ to run my 97 GT3 for a year. Its like any performance car, service history is king, lots of bills and paperwork mean its been loved. If your serious get a Lotus specialist to give it the once over.

Yep that is very true, like I say I was the same whn I bought the XJ6 the one i got in the end just felt right, So does this Esprit, I'm going to ask to look at the paperwork then make my mind up. I've seen some vey rough ones over the past year or so.

Chris,

I would urge you to get it looked at by an expert, its all too easy to get seduced by the look of the car ... I did and ended up with a very shiny but fundamentally buggered Esprit. Luckily, largely due to LEF, I escaped. The alternate route, one that I'll follow in the future (I now inevitably want a V8 as well) is find one owned by someone on here.

Best of Luck

Right done an HPI on it and its all clean and mileage shows as being correct, went back yesterday with my brother and we had a good look at it inside, outside, on top and underneath. Looks very genuine, it has had new belts, very tidy engine, but not to clean, if you know what I mean. Has new rear dampers. Needs a good clean inside and out. and a bit of trim tidying inside but nothing major. No leaks underneath (no oil on drive etc where it has been standing)

Looks to be a genuine car. I think I'm gonna offer him less than what he has said and take it from there, It's for my business.

Well I have put down the deposit, looked at the paperwork last night and rang the previous seller this morning, his a lotus specialist and said that the car is a good one. So pick it up in 2 weeks ;) I've done the HPI, checked the paperwork, spoken to Lotus etc so fingers crossed.

Chris,

Sounds like a good buy, soon you'll be having those jolty little moments where you suddenly remember that the outrageous wedge thing you are looking at is yours when standing in line at the petrol station or coming out of Sainsburys etc...

Yes, Rob I like to have 2 Esprits maybe next year, any sooner would result in unendurable and unstoppable whinging from significant other

Well done mate! Look forward to seeing you at the meets, how did it go, did you go far on the test drive? When i bought mine I didnt have a clue what I was looking at, the test drive consisted of driving home to check it fitted in he garage then back to the show room & pay the deposit... i thank my lucky stars every day there was nothing wrong with it, well for a year atleast anyway, & that was 4 years ago now.

Welcome to the posse mate. ;)

Now stop worrying about this manifold... your tempting fate!

Well done Chris. Welcome to the ownership of a very special car.

I bet the next fortnight will pass incredibly slowly unfortunately.

think so, but since that front spoiler is wider, you'll need to fit wheel arch extensions too :)
