Bibs
https://www.am-online.com/news/dealer-news/2020/01/08/leven-car-company-enters-administration Quote The Leven Car Company has entered administration, with dealership staff reportedly turned away from retail sites this morning. Stuart Robb and Michelle Elliott, of Leonard Curtis Recovery Limited, were appointed as joint administrators for the Edinburgh-based retail group yesterday (7), according to notices applied to its dealerships. The Scotsman, meanwhile, reported that staff arriving for work at its Kia and Suzuki franchises in Dunsdale Haugh, Selkirk, were turned away this morning (January 8). Those sites employed around 27 staff and had been acquired from previous owner the Belmont Group in March 2018, it said. Leven Cars Group Ltd, which represented Aston Martin, Caterham, Kia, Lotus, Mitsubishi, Rolls-Royce and Suzuki, as well as a specialist cars premium used car business, had been named ‘Number 1 Dealer in the World’ by Aston Martin two years ago. In October 2016 it had announced its investment of £1.2 million to create what it claims will be “one of the largest Aston Martin showrooms in the world" at the same time as it opened a Rolls-Royce facility at One Costorphine Road in the city. Leven's annual financial results for 2018 have yet to be published via Companies House, however. The group’s most recent published results, for the period to December 31, 2017, show that it achieve a turnover of £45 million during the period – up 28.9% on 2016’s £34.9m – alongside a loss before tax down 252.6% at £323,541, following a profit of £212,001. Guest
Shame for the staff. Hope a buyer can be found to salvage some of the dealerships and jobs.
Toeside
Yes bad news for everyone concerned. I just bought my first Lotus from Leven in October and it was due its 1K soon. Feel sorry for the staff too. Fingers crossed a buyer is found. I too paid for a service plan but by installments.
TerryCTR
I just found this out late afternoon - what a shame - I hope a buyer comes in and gets things on track. Laura was always very accommodating and was sourcing a black 410 for me at the beginning of this week.
Smapmap
Terrible news. Feel really sorry for the staff. I had nothing but frost class experience with Leven - really god dealership.Fingers crossed they will find a buyer and salvage some of it. I don't really fancy a 200+ round trip to Carlisle What is everyone doing about servicing and maintaining their cars? Are there any specialist garages in Scotland? Smapmap
Anyone had any experience of these guys? Round the corner from Leven and a Lotus specialist according to the website? https://www.craigmoncrieff.com/contact-us/
Bibs
Loads of people. Craig used to be the service manager at Murrays (the Lotus dealer Leven bought a year or so back) and his reputation is excellent, deservedly so from what I hear. 1 88 Esprit NA, 89 Esprit Turbo SE, Evora, Evora S, Evora IPS, Evora S IPS, Evora S IPS SR, Evora 400, Elise S1, Elise S1 111s, Evora GT410 Sport Evora NA For forum issues, please contact the Moderators. A great guy great outfit, loads of Lotus parked outside and inside the workshop even though only a stones throw over the tram line from Leven Lotus 🤔. Fitted my new stalks and mirrors from GFWilliams and Alias. Craig was a great guy and I had already decided to use them for all my Lotus servicing and tinkering moving forward when I went 2 months ago, for reasons I’ll not go into here. They appear to have a superb and loyal Lotus following and certainly treated my car with upmost care which was excellent.
Toeside
That sounds really positive. An ex colleague uses him also. The issue I have is warranty and maintaining it.
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted January 9, 2020 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 9, 2020 Another vote for Craig here been using him for 6 years. I hope he takes the opportunity to get fully accredited as a Lotus Service Centre. That would be awesome! 2 Alcohol. Sex. Tobacco. Drugs. Chocolate. Meh! Guest
Jobs saved as Leven Car Company's Edinburgh dealerships sold https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-51184916 Sounds like good news thankfully for the majority of staff Lotus appears to have been omitted though? 2GOOD
Both of the groups that have snapped up Leven are largish groups, Grange nothing like as big as Vertu but neither have any Lotus connections. Can’t imagine Lotus being of any interest to Vertu whatsoever. Grange however could be a good thing.
