Popular Post steve clack 82
Great News...After 34years the engine is running, Not run since 1986, thanks for everybody’s input. Had it running and had a leak in the header tank that had a few holes in that I welded, does anyone have one I could buy (don’t want a new one at a stupidly costly price). Also my fan motor is broken anyone know where I can get one from or alternatively has anyone got one I could buy. Just the brakes to bleed and I am looking for a drivers side caliper (thread on the original bleed screw has gone). Should be back on the road in a few weeks if all goes well.

steve clack 82
😯 That's what I thought when I bought it, yes, all original. Lotus must have loved seeing this one going out the door....
TAR 406
I can't believe that it's got an original interior, surely its been reupholstered? 🙂 Quote It's getting there......
steve clack 82
All the interior is 100% original, the onlyvthing I have changed is the headlining, which as everyone knows falls apart.
Doris the dog 75
Would this gap be close for the door to fit , or should there be less gap ? Quote Tony
Doris the dog 75
Tried to see if there was any wear on the striker, but it’s passenger side and no signs of wear. Guess it needs to go closer to rear by 4/5mm. Quote Tony
EXCEL V8 159
The position of the door skin at the B-post is dictated by the position of the door beam - it bolts directly to it. It's a matter of evening up the door gaps at the front and rear of the door by moving the beam backwards or forwards. The striker plate attached to the B-post is then spaced with shims to suit. Tony D 52
There should be a chrome trim that clamps between the latch and the door beam. It tidies up the cut out in the door fibre glass. Only affect things by 1mm or so, but makes sense to use when trial fitting. Fit the door skin temporarily once beam and latch are set (need to remove latch obviously), then you can check door gaps and alignment as Pete identifies above. Doris the dog 75
Just a little corrosion on the nyloc nut on the door pivot shaft. 1 Quote Tony
Doris the dog 75
Hi still working on the doors , loads to refurbish. Just the window frames and glass to sort out now. Would anyone have a door reflector going spare I could purchase please ? Quote Tony
Tony D 52
I've got a reflector spare, but not sure if I have the chrome frame. I'll take a look and PM you Tony. Tony
Doris the dog 75
Hi all, regardas the car is slowly coming together my mind has started to think about trim that I have. Looking through the sections I have some are good and original anodised, some painted black and some damaged which could be ok with work but probably would need a paint finish. So do you think there’s enough trim still out there to be had , to go original , to be able to replace damaged pieces, or should I go all black, and make good the damage? regards Tony B Quote Tony
Popular Post steve clack 82
Because you can buy new trim bits but cannot match EVERYTHING (because they do not make some of it anymore), I did mine in aluminium wrap. Only cost me £25 in all.
Straker 41
That wrap looks very smart.
Doris the dog 75
Hi Steve , that has got to be the way to go. Thankyou. Think I have most of the trim now with the help of a forum member , some I will have to take a hammer to it to remove some dents. Definitely go with wrap , guess it’s on internet , so will research later. Forgot, I’m missing aluminium angles that attach the trim to the body. I have part of a piece that attaches to windscreen pillar , obviously there must be one for other side , am I missing anymore from other places. Quote Tony
Doris the dog 75
Think this is the wrap? Quote Tony

Doris the dog 75
Only a small amount of time spent on the car today. Started cleaning the glass for doors and side windows. As a couple of the door glasses have the modified longer guides for the electric motors , I decided to use them. On one engraved in the glass is Reg plate number CAK649T. Quick check comes back as white Elite 1978. The other Elite wreck that came in mydeal was blue, will have to see if I can find any white on the few parts that’s not gone to the dump. Doris the dog 75
More jigsaw puzzle today with trim pieces. There must be something that blanks the slots like mesh? Guessing the black trim needs some trimming to fit? But it’s been fitted to something before. Or have I got this totally wrong. Quote Tony
steve clack 82
Black trim needs to be moved further up, the window trim sits underneath...
