@C8RKH I too know about the free insulation. In fact our free loft insulation gets installed next week and the cavity wall insulation installed next month. And yes @PhilW,  I do get up to go to work but not just on Monday mornings 😉, a bit of a tar loaded brush being waved about there.

I looked in to this while having house extended.

I found 2 places still offering installs in the south of England, and 25 offering to remove it inside the M25.
Apparently, so many problems are caused by it being installed incorrectly (damp on internal walls in particular) that a barge pole is the tool of choice now.

Well I would be very interested how you managed that.  On the assumption your income is not subsidised by any form of state benefit (And that is none of my business) how have you managed that?  I certainly cant get anything.

I don't mind you asking. It's mainly because my other half doesn't work (yet!) and we have a child under the age of 5, we don't claim any benefits. If the insulation and energy saving scheme was truly for the sake of saving the planet then it should be open to everybody, regardless of their situation.

My place still has night-storage heaters, and my old dual-meter setup was an administrative mess.  Dual standing charges, constant incorrect bills, a refusal to accept readings for zero usage during the summer, not to mention having to submit two readings each month and often a phone call to argue over the incorrect demands for payment.

I switched supplier and booked the free Smart meter install.  They converted it to one meter within a couple of hours, I have no tariff problems or meter readings to submit and it's been completely hassle-free.  As a bonus, it's 'smartness' allows the night circuit to be activated during the day (albeit at daytime rates) if I forget to set the heating in advance.

Mine doesn't save me anything because I don't look at it, but t's still a massive improvement from the balls-up suppliers make of manual billing, because they don't argue with their own machine.

Why should other people pay for those that can afford to? Sorry. But no. I know, I need a Tesla to cut down my carbon emissions, maybe someone will buy me one.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

It happens in the world all around us. Doesn't make it right, but take the wins when you can. It's a bit of a quantum leap to go from house insulation to a Tesla though 😆.

That Loop looks pretty cool Bibs, cheers for the post! There's a £12 a year subscription in the 2nd year and onward, not too bad. I like that they call the stuff you leave on and forget about as "phantom load" 🎃. Think I may get one to try.

My smart meter has recently become a bit less smarter. I changed my energy supplier recently and the in house monitor unit no longer displays tariff information, only the kWh consumption. I presume the meter itself is SMETS1, so yes, as everyone says, it's not a very well thought out system.
