Just now, Jacques said:

Looks super nice after the vapour blasting. Can it be done in situ, or is complete dismantling required?

It's done in a cabinet, so the components (big or small)  need to be sent away.

Sorry, I couldn't help a teaser mock-up on the twin charge-cooler set-up. Engine will be running the optimised ECU set-up for the intercooled V8 and 1 bar boost.

I have the privilege of rebuilding and upgrading an engine for Simon Francis.  It's a nice engine spec with CP Carrillo forced pistons and h-beam rods.  We've overcome the rod width issue on Sacha's e

Cam covers had been painted inside and out, so the baffles had to be stripped, have the paint removed and then the covers drilled and tapped to re-secure.  Cam covers then sealed so the top-end is now

The gearbox was sealed and then vapour blasted.  It is not split for this process.

Thanks. It means it could be done in situ, if properly covered and outside. I tried a powderblasting when I bought the car, and it did help, but the nozzle was not working properly with the baking soda, and the whole courtyard was covered in white ;)

Water seems to be the better solution ;)

Kind regards,

jacques

Coincidental with Simon's birthday, the replacement rod from CP Carrillo has arrived.

They have taken the adaptions necessary to clear the piston cooling jets into their design moving forward.

Many thanks to Joe Sulka from JAE for being instrumental in helping to sort out  a replacement rod.

The engine build can now continue.

You’ll be pleased with that, Mike.

I had my alloy engine block and all other alloy parts vapour blasted, and I’m very pleased with the result. Looks great, and leaves a very easy to clean surface, everything just wipes off. Shame you can’t see the engine and box, though!

That's so true.  All of these lovely parts that are either inside the engine or out of sight.

All pistons installed in liners.

RH bank sealed and torqued up.  Clearance between cams and ARP washers confirmed.

A bit slow going with so many other things going on.

Checking optimal torque based on the ARP2000 rod bolt spec.

@mike_sekinger when you install the liners into the other bank can you take a few pictures of the sealant (so I get an idea of how much) and also what it looks like from the underside before wiping any excess off if any sealant does show up at the bottom of the liner please?

cheers

-Chris

Looking smart @mike_sekinger - I’m guessing you used the correct sealant rather than just bollocked on a whole tube of gutter seal 🤭

Only here once

Always 🙂

These CP Carrillo forged pistons have the optional thermal crown coating and anti-friction coating on the skirts.

Hi Mike, Are the ali pipes from the compressor outlets single piece or do they have a join (hard to see properly from the pics)? Mine have a silicone pipe joiner which as you've seen is too close to the exhaust manifolds and the whole thing needs refabricating with a single hard pipe from the compressor to the chargecooler. Dave.

Hi Dave,

They are hard-pipe.  TIG welding the original end of the compressor ducts, which are formed to clear the manifolds/ex. studs.

I have a large stock of raw cast compressor ducts prior to machining and finishing.
