Hvac blower motor removal

Recommended Posts

Elite S1. Not too difficult to detach the motor and squirrel cage from the air box but can’t get further. No room past the ac unit for extraction. The air box itself appears to be held by inaccessible screws.  Can anyone share the secret of how much car has to be removed to free it before I take unnecessary items out?

It's a great design isn't it!!?  Because of the shape of the fibreglass housing, the shape of the motor mounting plates, and the location of the pedal box you really have to remove the unit from the car.  The top mounts - M6 set screws - are located under a steel cover plate which is under the centre of the dashboard - so dash has to come out.  The front mounting bolts are in the plenum camber in the engine bay - M8 set screws.  The unit weighs 18kg so be careful when you take out the fixings!  I'm (very slowly) doing a thread on restoring/modifying the Delanair unit - have a look for it.  Should be adding a bit more soon.  Good luck.

Pete
