So that will strongly influence his decision and strategy. Classically the teams have always favoured winning the constructor's championship over the driver's championship as the constructors champ is what decides the prize money. While neither RB or Merc necessarily need the extra prize money from winning as apposed to coming 2nd, its all about prestige and being "the best" for them. I get the impression that getting the constructors champ means more to Merc than it does to RB. I think RB are all in with Max (its really "Team Max" rather than RB) to such an extent I can totally see RB using Perez as a pawn to mess up Hamilton's day so Max can win the drivers champ sacrificing the constructors champ for RB. I don't think Merc would do that.

Gold FFM Popular Post C8RKH Posted November 18, 2021 Gold FFM Popular Post Report Share Posted November 18, 2021 I think Brawn has yet again missed the point and is down playing the incident. Max will win the WDC this year as the FIA has decided already that Max will win it. If you do not consistently apply the "rules" then the sport becomes a farce. I thought when Bernie went we would see much less "shenanigans" behind the scenes and more professional stewardship. It feels to me that nothing has changed really. 3 Quote Alcohol. Sex. Tobacco. Popular Post Techyd
If we compare this to the Silverstone incident, the situation is reversed here, only Lewis avoided the accident in Brazil and Max did not in Silverstone. I'm pretty sure Horner was a nasty piece of work in his comments about Lewis that day. Seems to me like the real competition is between two people: Christian Horner and Toto Wolff - and I think Toto may only just have realised that himself, being a far more decent bloke, he and Mercedes I think are currently on the back foot to Horner, who is playing the behind the scenes game - there has to be something to explain why Verstappen is not being picked up on his driving etiquette. My hope is that this isn't distracting the team from focusing on bring an update or spot-on setup /plan to Qatar. I would love to see Lewis take an eighth championship
Popular Post mg4lotus
On both occasions Lewis Hamilton was driving to avoid a collision. Max Verstappen's driving technique is crass and he is a danger to himself and everyone else on the track.
mdavies
F1 now a dirty tricks Derby. I look forward to Verstappen in future being subjected to "crowding off the track" by many others. Whenever he tries to pass outside on a corner. exeterjeep
Merc should offer free engines to any of the teams that use them to push Max (unintentionally of course) off the track. And replace Bottas now - anyone on here volunteer....

Gold FFM C8RKH Posted November 19, 2021 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 19, 2021 Yup. Game on. If I was Toto I'd be telling Bottas to get his elbows out. Was anyone actually surprised by this decision? F1 is becoming a joke and quite honestly I cannot see any credible way they can defend this decision based on the decisions and penalties they have already dished out this year. 2 Quote Alcohol. Sex. electro_boy
Well thats a load of crap from F1! I was expecting an investigation into the incident at the very least and hopefully a penalty for Max. But for them to look at the video and claim nothing further needed doing ... ? Well I guess that at least puts an end to the lawyers and they can get on with racing again!

I agree, but more because it looks like Bottas was castrated when young - metaphorically speaking. He seems to lack the balls for the wheel to wheel stuff and to get his elbows out. 3 Quote Alcohol. Popular Post Neal H
Max gained an advantage by exceeding track limits. Why isn’t it that simple? Even though Lewis moved well out of his way, Max couldn’t keep his car anywhere near the actual track, thereby keeping Lewis behind him. I’m somewhat baffled by this decision, just as I was by the stewards decision at the time. Clearly I don’t understand F1’s ‘rules’.

It feels like there is only 1 rule for this year. Max must win the WDC! Remember he is no spring chicken anymore and after 7 years. Funny everyone regards him as a "young driver" but he has been around now for 7 years.... That is why F1 has decided Max must win. There are 7 current F1 drivers who are younger than Max, soon to be 8! Not yet 25, I believe he has the longest period of "seat" time of all drivers under 25. When you look at it, I struggle to see where the hype comes from, the results just have not been there. What has been there is "excitement" as he risks his own and others drivers with "hard" racing tactics, usually questionable in its legality, but he usually gets away with it, unlike any of the other drivers. 2 Quote Alcohol.
