Hi, Minh-Loc and welcome to the forum.

What model did you try? If it it was a turbo, then it should be smooth at idle and, as Guy said, you should walk away from it. If it was an S1 or S2, you do get some vibration at idle but it should not be so much as to make you uncomfortable in the car or to shake the car a lot. For example, you should be still able to see out of the rear-view mirror without it being blurred by the vibration. It should not feel that the engine is running on only 3 cylinders either.

according to advert it is an Esprit S: turbo but no reardeck-glass.

vibration wise it felt a bit like it was diesel...

sellers didnt know how to close front boot. :welcome:

Hi Welcome to the group.

Obviously there are very few Esprit left on UK roads and its amazing the amount of history people on here about the cars that are left. Even if its just that its been advertised many times before. Just let us know what car your looking at and Im sure we can help you out some more.

Good luck with your search. Just dont expect to find a good example right away.

The S model is quite rare. I remember looking at one before I bought my S4.

Can't remember now exactly how it was different from the SE but I'm sure someone on here will know.

Being in Coventry you're very centrally based and as Carl says I'm sure there are plenty of folk on here that'll lend an hand/ear/eye if you want some help.

Do you know what model you want? If not pop along to Nick Whales place in Bromsgrove this Sunday about 10.30amish. There'll be 20 - 25 Esprits outside and owners will gladly explain what model they've got and let you have a nose (See NMEG July Jaunt thread).

There'll also be a lovely well cared S3 turbo that's on the market for sale.

Cheers,

Graham.

Great idea Graham, Mhin-Loc you would be very welcome, come along and say hi

So you went to see the one at Portway :welcome:

that was where i looked at a white x180 turbo they had once, IIRC it had 118k on the clock and it was a chain smoker - they didn't put the miles in the ad, they tried to tell me it was smoking cause of being moved just in and out of the garage each day , yer right :)

they gave me the keys to look at it, i opened the boot and bonnet and doors, started it up and.............................

turned around to see a crowd by me :)

I m sure I read somewere it is as follows.

Stevens Turbos avail late 80s early 90s prior to S4:

Turbo 215 bhp, in carb form

S 228 bhp in injection form

SE 260 bhp with chargecooler

Can't remember when the NA (non turbo) was dropped from the range so that was in the range as well up to some point.

What year was it ? might be worth having a look at the LEW owners web page. that will give you an idea of the range & how to identify. Good luck with your search.

Dave,

Wots this, she is up for sale!

thanks,

i'll try to come.

otherwise, i prefer giugiaro's, but detailing is better in Steven's.

so nothing definite...

looking for a daily driver,

and no garage, so paint is not very important...

but needs to be waterproof.

Hi - welcome  I have been listening along - good advice by all.

Your 'requirements' list above made me a smile -

a G car as a daily driver (big challenge for my car)

Paint not important (yup, that's my car)

needs to be waterproof (pfff...)
