Turbo Bonnet Gap Adjustment on the Hinge ?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone moved there bonnet east or west to balance out the shut line/panel gap to the wings. Mine isn’t great and can get your pinky down one side and just about a match stick the other. Looking at the general arrangement drawings all I have to do is loosen six bolts and slide it in the slotted hinge holes with the bolts in place?

Seems easy, but concerned it will drop and damage the paint or not go as expected. Ideally, it could do with a very slight rotation to be perfect as well. Should I leave it alone, not broke don’t fiddle or worth a go?

Any luck by others doing something similar?

Happy to hear, thanx.

I have done this several times. Easiest with two people but have done it myself as well. Put something soft under the front edge so stop damaged. Mark the bonnets current position around the hinges so you have a reference for adjustment.

Also, the bolts can be frustratingly short - this might have been a previous owner but I changed mine for longer ones just for this adjustment!

Also, those hinges flex quite alot so make sure both are loose before you move it or one will get stressed.

Remember there are also shims at the bonnet catches that can change the height of the bonnet cf the height of the wings at the top.

Yes my experience is that the hinge attachment plates to the bonnet are weak and easily damaged. Its a real pain to have to re-glass them back.

Good idea to check their integrity before you proceed.
