Dampers and springs

Recommended Posts

just thinking out loud

I've completely rebuilt the suspension of the car but used the springs and damper that were on the car......all looked good...so thought why not........they all work well but I wondered about adjustable seat coil overs

Having recently seen a lovely grey elite that looked like it'd lost a couple of cm's off the ride height.........

I'm thinking I might do this......gives me an option to be a bit lower of at the standard height......

Anyone got any experiences?.......anyone know the best place to get adjustable seat dampers?........any insights?........

Thanks in advance........

Like I say.....I'm just thinking out loud.....

Not seen any specifically for our cars. The only lowered one was the Red Panther and that was on air bags. There must be some adjustable coilovers out there though that would suit.

Spydercars and Canley Classics would probably be a good place to look for some options for the front.

Some of the Marcos related images show adjustable seat dampers. I think they are adjustable GaZ ones.

I don't know where you run your car, but beware of ground clearance problems with speedbumps and when parking front on to a kerb. You should really go for adjustable mounting points for height adjustment, lowering/raising by adjusting just the spring tension will put the car out of the mid travel point of the shockers. I've adjustable coilovers on mine, set for the correct travel (in conjunction with correct spring poundage), and also adjustable mounting points, though I have it set to std height just because of the problems I mentioned with speedbumps etc.

We've got adjustable coilovers on the front of the race car ('74 Elite).  They came from GAZ.  We run a V8, so we called GAZ to get suggestions on which shocks/springs to use.

They weren't very expensive and have lasted a long time.

Can't comment much on experience being that it's a race car and never sees street use.  They're fine on the track.
