1981 Esprit S3 NA

Recommended Posts

I have owned my cherished Lotus Esprit S3 since 1988 and have travelled many trouble free miles in her. She has been looked after by Esprit Engineering of Dowton who rebuilt and overhauled the mechanics (my thanks to Geoff and Dave) in 2017.

This is a unique opportunity to buy a very rare “black badge”, normally aspirated 1981 Lotus Esprit Series 3.

Only 763 of this type were ever made between 1981 and 1987 of which this is 1 of only 4 remaining in this country – www.howmanyleft.co.uk

@910Esprit to say the least. My 82 Turbo Esprit with 60,000 miles on it must then be worth a shed load more as it is also a rare "black badge" version.

I think the how many left may have been read incorrectly as there are also 48 Esprits from 1981, 66 from 1982 etc. So not 1 in 4 remaining.

It’s a shame it’s an ambitious price, but when you see Escort’s and Capri’s going for stupid money why shouldn’t a well sorted Esprit  be worth £50k. Even the Mk1 Lotus Cortina is ridiculous price wise, I had a Mk 2 and it was good fun to drive but isn’t a patch on an Esprit.

Another example is the Excel, How can a Ford Capri be worth more.... it’s a crazy world

Too many rose tinted spectacles being worn with a lot of these cars in my opinion

First time I took my Excel to work, someone said - oh look there's a Capri in the car park.

Turned out I bought my Esprit 3 months before he was born.

I agree with Barry, it looks very nice indeed although I think we all know it won’t reach that sum when you see that lovely turbo on pistonheads for £23k. Still best of luck to the seller as stranger things happen and it is without doubt in top order.

Dave :)

Do or do not, there is no try!
