cweeden
Hi All, I know there are other topics covering the development of various intercooling solutions for the V8 Esprit, however I think this new development needs a thread of it's own. There has been some significant progress mainly thanks to @nick_wannop for his help and extreme generosity. A few years ago Nick commissioned a one off intercooler solution for his V8 Esprit that doesn't intrude into the boot space and he has very kindly agreed to offer up his kit back to Pro Alloy to use as a template for more kits of the same to help the Lotus community. That's quite an upheaval and this opportunity couldn't progress without his help since Pro Alloy did retain any of the original design work. Here are some pictures of the kit in case you haven't seen them already (the first picture below may contain some items that may not be included - I need to confirm that with Pro Alloy). Pro Alloy have agreed that this is a worthwhile venture and are willing to make some more. They have provided some pricing on a sliding scale, and as usual the more kits that are ordered the cheaper they are for everyone. Pro Alloy have provided pricing for 1,2,5 and 10 kits. Each kit would include the following: Twin Custom built charge cooler units with core sizes of – 165 x 95 x 200mm, Boost pipes to suit both units Coolant reservoir to separate the coolant systems, BOSCH coolant pump, Aluminium coolant pre-rad to charge cooler lines, Enlarged Front charge cooler Pre Rad, Twin Turbosmart BOVs Modifications to standard OEM cast inlet pipework to alloy boost pipe to marry the system up correctly. Price for a one-off Kit - £3421.76 + VAT Price for 2 kits to be built together – £3109.60 + VAT Price for 5 off units built together - £2748.99 + VAT Price for 10 kits ordered together - £2395.23 + VAT All that remains is for a big long list of names of people who would like a kit for their V8 Esprit, form an orderly queue below. 🙂 Wouldn't it be awesome if we could get the maximum discount. cheers -Chris 1. andyblackman777
No takers? Very tempted at the 10+ price.
cweeden
No, it's like a tumbleweed over here. I was hoping for two or three at least. Unfortunately the emission control stuff the US cars have would get in the way making this less attractive on the other side of the pond. Although I am not sure they have that in all states?? I would urge those who are considering one to come forward as I would be surprised if this opportunity will arise again any time soon. cheers -Chris
mike_sekinger
Please can you get clarification if any parts of the kit pictured are not included? Also, is there an image of the radiator? 1. Chris W 2. cweeden
Yay, the Wolfpack is growing. 😄 I'll ask them Mike, I don't have an image of the radiator yet. Who's next now we are on a roll? Three more and everyone saves £850. cheers -Chris

cweeden
So we have two plus another two with conditions. We're almost at the 5 where we would be saving £850, there is only £400 more saved from the 10 unit price, is that worth missing out for? 🙂

cweeden
Excellent, thanks for joining Dave. So we are now at the confirmed 5 unit price of £2748.99 + VAT each. Only three more names for maximum discount. I'll reach out to Pro Alloy and see if they will do anything special for 7 orders. cheers -Chris
andyblackman777
Chris , If we get to nine just order 10. If my math is right is it not cheaper to buy 10 than 9? £23950 for 10 and £24741 for 9 (+vat) So for 9 £2661 each and we have another one to sell on.
cweeden
🤣 I can't believe I didn't think to run that calculation myself, it looks like Pro Alloy didn't either, great spot. 🤣 As an update, Pro Alloy will take Nick's car at some point (I don't have a date) and reverse engineer their original work to create the template needed. So we still have more time to grow the list to reduce the cost for everyone. Price for 5 off units built together - £2748.99 + VAT Price for 9 kits ordered together - £2661.11 + VAT (plus potential rebate if 10th is sold) Price for 10 kits ordered together - £2395.23 + VAT
DanT
Hi Chris Put me down for one. What else do I need to change out, do I need to change rad pipes? Thanks
cweeden
Hi Dan, Great to have you onboard. I don't think you need to change anything apart from the original turbo to plenum inlet pipes that get modified as part of the deal. The kit should contain everything needed, not having fitted one myself I cannot guarantee that but that is what I have been lead to believe. 👍 One more and I think we can order 10 inline with Andy's comments above but I'm hoping we'll get 10 on the list to keep it simple. 🙂 1. cweeden
Hi All, A quick update. Nick's car is available now and I am trying to get ProAlloy to agree a timeline to copy the kit and begin production (it would be much easier if they would return my calls or emails but I will get through eventually). I plan on sending a private message to each of you to ask for your email address and to ask if it is OK to share your details with ProAlloy as they would like to confirm that customers do exist. If anyone on the list below has changed their mind please let me know now so that we can avoid any embarrassing conversations with ProAlloy later. 🙂 1. Chris W ( @cweeden ) 2. cweeden
Hi All, I spent the last week confirming with individuals their continued interest and I'm happy to say that the list is still in very good shape, unfortunately Alex Adamou has had to drop out due to an exciting new business venture and I am still waiting on one or two additional confirmations. Here is the current list. 1 Chris Weeden confirmed 2 Mike Sekinger confirmed 3 Dave Excell confirmed 4 Dan Tebay confirmed 5 Steve Middleton confirmed 6 Sacha Gyte confirmed 7 Jason Suttle confirmed 8 Peter Donato confirmed 9 Jeff Hedden confirmed 10 Paull Colcough not yet confirmed 11 Andy Blackman not yet confirmed 12 Jan Elholt not yet confirmed I have managed to re-establish contact with ProAlloy after a period of radio silence and they have said they will contact Nick shortly to get his car in and get started on the templates and jigs. Mike, I did get a picture of the pre-rad (I'm not sure if it's the type you were hoping for?) but to the others I am working on a clear and concise list of what additional parts will be needed (I am not expecting any) to complete the installation. The kit does require a modification to existing turbo to inlet pipes, Mike has a few sets that he is willing to sell if people are interested to preserve theirs as original and also minimise any time where they need to be taken off the car and sent to ProAlloy for return. If anyone is interested in those, please speak up and maybe we can appeal to Mike for a great price to help the project. 🙂 I've had the offer of help from a gentleman on Facebook who lives near to ProAlloy and drives a 4 cylinder Esprit, Ralph Wilton. Ralph is a retired engineer and is the inventor of Belt in Oil Technology and he also created the first long life cam belts. If we need a site visit for any reason Ralph will help us. I will be sending the list to ProAlloy today and telling them to build 10 kits minimum, further updates as things progress. cheers -Chris I should also state that if there are any newcomers to this thread who would also like to join the list please just shout, there is still time. 🙂
mike_sekinger
Thanks Chris for the update. That's a single pass unit. I had hoped that they would include the twin-pass unit pictured below. Maybe you can ask then if that is a configurable option? mike_sekinger
I just want to add that those who are committed to these kits may also wish to consider taking the chargecooler optimised 1 bar boost ECU calibration that I offer. This will elevate your power level to between 450-470bhp, depending on your turbos.
