Wanted - Evora S SR

Hello,

I'm in the market for an Evora S Sports Racer (or similar spec/year), in a dark metallic finish other than black.  Not fussed about manual/auto, but I'm after the suedetex/alcantara dash.

Due to the general rarity of the Evora I'm considering a white one, but I'm not sure, they look great but perhaps stand out a bit too much for me.

Anyway if you're thinking of selling something close to this, give me a shout.

Cheers,
Doug

Will Blackham has been listing this one for a couple of weeks - hopefully it’s still available...

White isn’t as lary as yellow or orange ;-)

Thanks Jim, yes I'm in two minds about white, it looks superb but I usually go for something more subtle.  I might end up deciding to take a look if it's still available, I suppose an Evora S isn't all that discreet ;)

Driving buddy with as S3 Exige previously had an early NA Evora in black. I had a big noisy VXR8 at the time, which had an invisibility cloak when we went out together.....

From memory (so take this as indicative rather than factual) there were 102 Evora SR produced, with 53 of those being S versions. If you are set on one particular colour you can wait a long time for one to appear for sale.

Here's another (darker!) one :

https://www.integrityautomotive.co.uk/used-lotus-evora-ipswich-suffolk-2491662

No idea who this dealer is, but maybe someone knows the car?

Edit : This appears to have red leather dash and silver badges - and no black body bits it's so not a Sports Racer at all...... Registered as an Evora S, which is what it appears to be....

Could be a bit "Marmite" though?

I would be very careful with that car.......

I considered it at length.........I may have even bought it if he'd come down to 35k....

Its had the drivers side rear quarter resprayed and some parts on the rear including diffuser......

Its also got no service history whatsoever from 1k to 33k......

And there's no real flexibility on price.......

It needs a good inspection but credit to the dealer for being honest. He was open with me on the phone......

Ah yes, I looked at that, but I'm not a fan of the red dash.

A couple of the old ads I stumbled across while googling:

http://www.parkwayspecialistcars.co.uk/sold/car/lotus-evora-35-v6-s-2-supercharged

https://www.lotussilverstone.co.uk/vehicle-details/Lotus-Evora-U121/

I'm guessing there are 20-30 2013-2015 models out there in blue, grey, green.  Just a waiting game, unless I go for the white one..

There is a chance I may be selling my Evora soon.

Still not decided yet.

It is a  Sports Racer Supercharged S manual

It has Paint protection film
2015 White with Venom Red seats and Grey Suedex (Alcantara) Dash.  Only done 18500 miles with full Lotus service history.  It is in really super condition.

Thanks Bibs - I may well do that, although I'm not in a huge hurry to sell it. It just struck me that it met Doug's brief and I was pondering a change as the garage it's in currently is going to be demolished in a couple of months. I'll remove the car first though, obviously. 😀

Not sure what I'd replace it with yet though. I have quite a short car attention span normally but I've hung onto the Evora for ages as it's so good to drive. Where do you go from an Evora and not be disappointed? Tricky one...

The only car that drives as well, steering and suspension wise, is McLaren 12c/650s/720.

They are though a different league of depreciation and running costs. Worth it if you love a great ride, handling and steering experience but the Evora is frankly good enough and much better value.

Funny you mention that, that's exactly the suggestion Hilton and Moss made to me too (they've got an ex-demo going for a reasonable-ish rate apparently). Trying not to drive it though in case I get tempted to spend that kind of money! I'm not totally sold on the looks of the newer models either, though I'll admit that does have a certain presence.

I've owned an M100 Elan, S1 Elise, Esprit GT3, classic Elan Sprint and an Evora so far on the Lotus front, and keep hankering after a high-buttress S2 Europa, but somehow have a feeling it may not quite match up to the pleasure my matchbox one gave me as a child! 😀

I do hanker after a 12C as I love the (comparatively) understated 'big Evora' looks, but have heard a lot of horror stories. Not quite brave enough to go there I think!

I'm considering selling mine too if you're interested Doug - it's a 2014 Sports Racer S Manual in grey/black. All the usual SR goodies. One owner, Full Lotus History, 25k miles, just serviced and MOTed. Always garaged, no track use and in immaculate condition.

Don’t suppose you’ve got any pics of your car Rob? It sounds lovely.

12c is the best looking in my view; it works holistically whereas the 650S front does not match the rear. And the newer models are too aggressive looking. The interior of the 12c is also understated and subtle. And a very fine place to sit.

I have done 24,000 miles in my 12c. Best stump up for the warranty, it becomes then a known cost. The non-franchise network is starting to emerge, so less expensive repairs are becoming available. The only real horror show is the gearbox and that is due to minor leaks that McLaren say 'new gearbox'. Repairs are possible or exchange units but not via McLaren. The battery is £2,500.......bonkers, so keep it trickle charged.

The adjustable suspension on 12c/650/720 is supreme. Worth the entry fee alone.

Only buy a McLaren with your eyes and wallet open. If you buy expecting a cheap ride, more fool you. It is simply the best drivers car with massive power - but only if you really want to pay for that honour. Otherwise, Evora is the next best thing.

Frankly, there is no better driving car than an Elise S1 (118bhp) but it has its practical limitations.

Europa S2 sublime but perhaps a tad under-powered.  Properly tuned Big Valve is the one but boy, do they feel small on the road these days. If asked to choose, I would go Elise over Europa but both brilliant.

Approximately how much is a warranty on a 12C out of interest? I think they've probably (possibly) depreciated about as far as they're likely to, so I expect that's a fair chunk of the annual costs (assuming you don't accidentally unplug your trickle charger 😉).

I must admit I never hugely gelled with my S1 Elise. I had a K-Series Caterham 7 Supersport prior which I changed for a S1 Elise 111S - so pretty much the same car mechanically, but to be honest I preferred the Caterham. The ride was nicer, the seats were more comfortable and the roof didn't leak. Even the hardtop on the Elise leaked like a sieve.

Yup, I agree the Twin Cam Europa is the way to go on paper, but there's something about the looks of the early ones, especially with steel wheels and hubcaps. Shocking car really though, and tiny as you say. I've never driven one, but have sat in one and my head hit the roof lining and I'm about 5'11. Perhaps it'd make more sense to invest in another Matchbox one!

McLaren warranty is about 5k per annum. It covers everything from my experience (EG. Condensation in a rear light cluster that I had not really noticed) but only worth it if you do a decent mileage. I exercise mine in Germany.

Elise - I'm surprised. I had a 111S new in 99. I preferred the 98 standard car and now have a 2000 Elise 118bhp. Just love it and it will do 37mpg even using the red line.

Europa - Nike! Just do it.

^^^ that looks superb. Like new. And the colour i very now and on message I believe.

Alcohol. Sex. Tobacco. Drugs. Chocolate.  Meh! NOTHING in this world is as addictive as an Evora +0. It's not for babies!

The first guy to ride a bull for fun, was a true hero. The second man to follow him was truly nuts!

Cheers, I was told it's the same flat grey that Audi use for some of their various sporty models. I don't think there are more than a handful of grey ones about - I've seen photos of a couple of others all of which have the same Norwich 'AU14 B..' plates so I guess Lotus made a few and registered them together for internal use before selling them off. I guess it's a bit of a love it or hate it colour, but I think it looks fantastic with the black roof and sills.
