6ft 4in guy thinking of getting an Elise

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying an old a Elise S2 from 2001 (convertible). I'm wondering if I would fit in it being my height. Any tall guys had any problems in it? I know bit tricky to get in and out of, but I don't mind that. I'm 23 years old.

I'm also thinking about getting a Honda engine Elise to bring up the BHP significantly. Let me know if you have any experience with any of these as well.

Cheers guys!

Hey Bibs, thanks for your reply, I'm looking at the Elise S2 and the modified one was just on sale atm. I will look at getting a test drive to see if I can fit into one!   I should be

Hi and welcome. You're going to need to try one to see if you fit. Long back/long legs etc, we're all different and it makes a difference if you'll fit or not.

I've driven a Honda'd Exige S1 and it's one of the fastest cars I've ever driven, they really are extremely quick! Try the standard car first then see if you feel that extra power - being very light, Lotus cars have very strong power to weight ratios off the bat, hence the 118bhp S1 Elise being such a hoot.

I hope you can insure a modified Elise at your youthful age.

Honda engine is heavier than the brilliant K-series, as was the later factory Toyota unit, which rather changes the characteristics of Elise.

You should try a K-series as nature intended, you may be surprised.

I should be fine with insurance, have been insured on bigger powered cars before. I will try the original K series for a test drive! Looking forward to it :)

Two of my best mates are over 6", one 6"4 of slim build and fits no problems, the other is 6"6, maybe 6"7 and, shall we say, less slim built, he fits in passenger seat but not drivers seat!

Managed to try out an Elise today and happy to say that I fit, not v graceful on entry and exit but to be expected hah!

I'm looking to go see the Honda engine Elise next week, but I'm looking to take a independent specialist Lotus mechanic to make sure everything is in order. I'm based in West London so does anyone know someone that they would recommend in west London / Buckinghamshire.
