As a few of you may know I recently bought a restoration project. I was looking for a project and as a kid I thought the Eclat was cool so I revisited those and couldn't decide whether I liked them or

Looks great Paul. It’ll be a lot of hours. If you got all the parts you’ll be ok. Glad she’s finally found a good home with you. Good luck with the restoration. 👍👍👍

Okay people it's time to play "Where does this bit go?"...

1. So, first up is this metal bracket...

2. Then secondly we have a metal plate and a bit of black vinyl...

3. And then finally we have this piece of carpet...

The reason I question these is that I have been given a few bits that don't belong to this car and I'm not familiar with the turbo.

I'm fairly sure that an 82 Turbo didn't have carpet in the boot, other than on the fuel tank covers.

I'm not sure on the other bits. Picture 1 looks unlike any part I've seen on an Esprit. 🙂

Last one is boot floor carpet.  Long end is LHS

Long end is too long to be an original Lotus part, probably fitted by a P/O.

The vinyl covered metal plate may be a DIY attempt at a battery cover.

No2 looks like the plate which goes over the electric box on an Se/S4 - can’t say about the earlier cars. It’s missing the boot light switch cut out so maybe the Earlier cars didn’t have that ??

Certain its original, or a direct copy - Here's another original  Its even got the same scallop in the bottom right.

Whether its original to that car is another matter.   E.G. I noticed the undertray is from a later model

Progress is slow as we moved house last year so I have moved it into a different garage. Maybe that counts...🤔

Not wishing to hijack Paul’s thread but mines a full on resto too, although the HC engine has already been fully rebuilt (not by me) ready to drop in.

Noooo, you not catching my drift, the long bit looks too long (his is longer than yours) on Paul's piccy, perhaps its an optical illusion or because im looking through one eye.😆

Hey @Paul Coleman get the lingo right.

Even I as an S1 owner knows there's no such thing as an Lotus S3 Turbo.

It's a Lotus Turbo Esprit, or Esprit Turbo if you will.

Anyone who knows why the name was swapped around, seemingly about 1985 please let me know. I assume it was to standardize (sic) with the US, since their road tests seemed to favour the latter version. And I suppose turbocharging had become more commonplace by the mid-1980s with the name added to the end of a car's model name.

Answers on a postcard....

V jealous of you Paul. What a great project.

I'm also pretty sure you will fly through it as you will find it more straight forward than your S1.
