Half shaft orientation on 1982 Turbo

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know if the half shafts on a 1982 Turbo have an inner and outer end when you fit them? i.e. do they have to go a particular way round. I'm new to the Turbo so excuse my ignorance!

Hi

I rebuild mine last year and I am pretty sure they don't. Mine was an 84 turbo but guess they are the same. Have a good look at the circlip detail at the end as this is the only part that may be different. I spent a long time checking and double checking mine. I do know that to get the ends back on the spline cooling the spline in the freezer and heating the end in the oven helps.
You could argue that swapping them over so their direction of rotation is different is a good thing as it will even out the wear on the splines and the stress in the shaft, I know a lot of race teams do this.

good luck
