I watch the BBC reporting over 100 covid deaths every day all week and then this chart pops up saying its 242 for the weekly avg. ramjet
My thoughts exactly. Only takes the changing of that word by either a media outlet or a listener and the numbers don't make sense. tom kilner
Plenty of them left behind their disposable Amazon camping kit, but will have taken home a surprise for the family... given boardmasters produced 5000 known infections out of 75000 attendees... let's hope the reading festival organisers went even more "above and beyond national guidelines"
LotusLeftLotusRight
Some UK statistics. 6.9 million confirmed cases so far, so that means about 10% of the population have had it and will have antibodies. I know some will have had it twice, but many more will have been asymptomatic and untested. 89% of 16+ adults have had one dose. 79% of 16+ adults have had both doses. With all that protection, wouldn’t you think we would be fully on top of it by now?

To be fair the UK government is managing a far higher daily case rate and death rate (using similar figures) than almost every other country - we are hoping to see rates falling before hospitals' busy winter season. They've done away with most legal restrictions, so they've just got "scaremongering" and "a call to the anxious" in the toolbox. It's a lot better than it was, and a lot better than it could be.

With all that protection, wouldn’t you think we would be fully on top of it by now? Currently around 94% of adults have antibodies and this figure has been fairly static for a few weeks now. This still leaves 6% of the adult population plus children. Lots of data available here Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey, antibody and vaccination data, UK - Office for National Statistics The vaccine is not a sterilising vaccine and so doesn't prevent onward transmission (although does reduce it on average) and the purpose of the vaccine is and was to prevent serious illness and death. COVID is now effectively endemic and will probably circulate at current levels +/- for the long term, as many endemic respiratory viruses do. Immunity will be topped up in the individual by vaccination (intramuscular or intranasal) and natural exposure. Current hospitalisations and deaths are well below a bad 'flu' year but (and this is a big concern) this winter will combine endemic COVID with flu and febrile colds to hit hard where vulnerable people are concerned. Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted September 5, 2021 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted September 5, 2021 Well let’s just wait and see what we have by the end of September early October once the kids have been back to school. tom kilner
My kids back at school today, that's the next risk.. remember the media stories when you were allowed back in the pub? Looks like we just scraped through that one, a bit of a rise in infections and admissions, but still manageable. Throw in cold weather for indoor socialising, and that is maybe the final hurdle. 🤞 As long as you're not waiting for an artificial knee🤔
