Emira Origin and Meaning

The name Emira is a girl's name of Arabic origin meaning "commander, prince".

Emira is one of those pan-exotic names that feels pleasant enough but seems so unrooted to any one culture that it might as well be made up.

Found online, not my opinion 😁

Somebody on PH posted up the Emira name and that trade mark link on Thursday. Maybe the SELOC poster got it from there or vice versa?

SELOC had it on Wednesday. So I imagine that the PH poster lifted it from there as well.

Hardly. It’s not as if Lotus dealers have had anything really new to sell for the past few years anyway.

If anything, this announcement will give the ‘wow, I’d better get my last Elise/Exige/Evora’ sales a shot in the arm. I suspect that the next wave of cars will attract more first time Lotus buyers than previous owners.

I’m in two minds about it, I’ve been looking for an Evora for a little while now. It’s seemed pointless to buy with all the lockdowns so I haven’t yet although granted I’ve not found the right one either, I have got my eye on a GT410 Sport but can’t go look at it.

Makes me wonder if I should just hold out until the type 131, or buy an Evora and then look at trade in options when the new car launches.

Some guys on Lotustalk and elsewhere have an interesting theory regarding the term sport car series and the visual used by Lotus. What if Type 131 was not one car but one chassis able to accept 3 different bodies?

@NedaSayand a chassis which will take three engine types?

Yes, it would be unprecedented in a way... Except that McLaren has been doing it ever since the MP4-12C and everything  Sport and Super Series up until 720s has been built on the same core chassis.

Technically very doable for Lotus even more with VVA or VVA+, so if you add to that Volvo and Geely experience on the matter. If lotus had access to everything, as I believe, they had access to literally everything - and they did not need that much : a loom, and powertrains to work with - and you consider that Type 131 has been in inception for a little while (2015 give or take a few months) they had plenty of times in the past 2 years to come up with an industrialization plan

the three silhouettes we see in the press release could all be Type 131 be it Type131A, Type131B and Type131C they can share core chassis, engine layout and loom( dash cluster, cabin ergonomics infotainment and environment display). If you remember the infamous DB intent prototype the cabin of the 3 mid-engined car did share a lot. Type 131 could go beyond that with just minor dash variations. Type 131 is a Hybrid and according to the journos would come with a V6 turbocharged and hybridized 550bhp+ ... at 75k I don't think so but a  3 or 4cyl turbocharged and hybridized at 350/400bhp  I'd say yup.

I know, it's out there, but come to think of it not that much. You wait for a new car for years and suddenly...

That is exactly how I read into the press release. Not one car but three with varying subframe structures, wheelbase and track all be it one chassis.

Possibily two different engines and varying bodywork.

I'd honestly assumed we all already knew this 🤔

@NedaSaydid the DB V8 get to productionising state, I may have missed this being discussed in another topic.

three different rear alloy subframes using the same chassis does appear pretty doable and would allow for a large amount of commonality and arguably give three base models in the price range

looking forward to the next Lotus teaser for type 131
