Howdy!

Just wanted to introduce myself. I have been in love with the design of the Lotus Esprit since I was a kid and had a poster of one on my wall. Wedge cars in general have always held a sweet spot in my heart.  I joined the forum because I have been seriously contemplating finally taking the plunge and purchasing an Esprit and want to learn as much as I can before getting into it.  If I had to choose between all the models I would say a late 80's HC would be my car of choice from an aesthetic point of view as well as what I have tried to read up on online.  I know I still have a lot more to lean though and would love to know more about them.  I have all the typical questions rattling around in my head like anyone would ... how hard it is to get parts / what are the hard to find parts? Common issues?  What to look out for when buying?  How hard are they to work on? &tc, &tc.  Other non-Lotus vehicles I have owned in the past include a 72 VW Beetle, 93 Ranger, 01 Mazda Protege Mp3, 87 Toyota 4runner Turbo, 05 BMW f650 Dakar, and a 15 JKU. There are a few others in there as well.  I have done my fair share of work on cars (mostly on the 4runner and VW), and am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I currently live in Texas but have traveled / lived all over the place including some time spent in Germany as a kid.  I know this was a bit of a ramble but thanks for reading and hopefully some of ya'll will pop in here and impart me with some  wisdom. :)  Can't wait to learn and contribute.  Have a great day and stay safe out there in this crazy FN world.

Welcome Karl.

This is absolutely THE best place for owners and admirers of the Lotus brand.

Your choice of an HC could make your search harder as there were few of them made, in comparison to an already small number of 80's Lotus.

I think many people believe that to be the pinnacle of earlier cars. It certainly had several updates from its forerunners.

Parts can be hard to come by, but search enough and rare bits can still be found. Most consumable items are still readily available.

Have a dig around on the forums, there's loads of useful info and when you're ready to start looking, I'm sure you'll get the best advice.

🙂

It's getting there......

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.
