green dot intake sprocket

fellow north americans: i still have the red dot 110 sprocket which the govenment emissions standards requires. our cars are special. in the way the special olympics are special. have any of you ventured to reverse this retardation? as i understand it, one can swap the intake and ignition sprockets as a cheap fix. are there any known issues with doing so? would i be better off purchasing a green dot 104 sprocket, as standard everywhere else in the world? thanks.

lotus designed it to have a 104 degree sprocket. the idiot environmentalists ordered lotus to handicap thier engines to meet new emissions standards. so at the last minute, lotus took a shortcut and switched to the 110 degree cam which changes the maximum opening point on intake. to illustrate better: imagine you are coming to live in america, and some tree-hugging hippy at customs insists you remove one of your testicles, before passing.

Tiegan ,The other green dot sprocket is on your auxillary drive.

Swap it for the red one.

Instant Euro spec. valve timing :P

Dont think it will pass emissions though

Dont need too in Ontario(over 20 yrs. old)

Sorry in delay answering, didnt notice the thread (getting old) :D

thanks for the advice wayne. i'll swap it next time i change the belts. jussi, you still haven't told us which color your intake sprocket was.

took the esprit out earlier at some welcome high rpms. the engine really is happiest above 4000. too bad there's usually not enough room to let it loose. i chickened out on the course; being unsure of the equipment, but i still kept up safe braking distance behind friends in AMG monsters. did a few short spurts of 6000rpm and burned some rubber. i definitely have to get some proper brakes and suspension in the car, before trying that course again.
