Hello people,

I've recently bought a Lotus Excel, you don't really see that many of them around, so I am looking to restore it to it's former glory.

I'll get some pics sorted out at some point, but I must say it's great fun to drive!

Congratulations, the Excel is probably the most under rated lotus but is (in my view) the most practical. I have owned 4 over the years.

Funny about seeing Lotus vehicles on the road. In Australia, I have seen one Esprit S4, one Elise, one Exige and one Evora. That's in 13 years since I have owned my Esprit.

On my trip to the UK etc, one Exige which I saw from the tour coach and another Elise, which was Bibs one when he came to meet me.

Other than that? Only on drives with other Lotus drivers.

Thanks for the welcome, I've added a pic of some work in progress on it. I thought it had a water leak as I had to keep topping it up with water when driving it.

The good news it that it doesn't leak, but I've uncovered few other issues that need sorting before I can take it on the road again, and I'll grab a few better pics than this one!

Your car looks lovely, red really suits the excel. 

Good news the engine is not leaking water, there are always “issues” that need sorting 😀 but generally the excel is a reliable car.

Best car ever and a favourite of the MD of that time. Always called it "The most sorted Classic Lotus we made". I had one for 2 years and loved it!
