I think that is a '47' variant  as in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Europa

...extract below.....

Although the original Europa was intended as a clubman's sports racer to replace the Lotus 7, it was realised that the car would be uncompetitive with the Renault engines available. A decision was therefore made to manufacture a specialist race car based on the Europa to be raced by Team Lotus and sold to private entrants. Although the very first Type 47 was based on a modified Europa, all subsequent cars were produced entirely by Lotus Components rather than the main factory. Launched at the same time as the S1 Europa, the body of the 47 was thinner than the standard Europa and with larger wheel arches. Side vents into the engine bay were added after the first few cars experienced problems with engine bay temperature.

The engine, gearbox and rear suspension were completely different from the standard Europa and were taken in their entirety from the Lotus 23/Lotus 22 Formula Junior cars with a Lotus-Ford Twin Cam based 165 hp (123 kW) 1,594 cc Cosworth Mk.XIII dry sump engine, and a Hewland FT 200 5-speed gearbox and suspension with reversed bottom wishbone, top link and dual radius arms. The front upright was specially cast in common with the F2 version of Lotus 41X to accommodate larger Girling brakes for the later 47A model (which had the Alfa Romeo tail lamp shared with the Europa S2) with reinforced front frame.

The Type 47 exact production numbers are unknown, the last car was 47GT-85 but it is unlikely that 85 47GT's were produced, estimates vary from 55 to 68 during the years 1966–70. Although the 47GT is the best known, a few 47F's were produced, these had the detachable body similar to the S2 Europa, but retaining the large wheel arches and side vents of the 47GT. Fitted with a tuned Ford cross flow engine but with the Renault gearbox and rear suspension of the Europa..

Another great day at Combe, with both weather and circuit in fine fettle.  Sadly the catering was pretty dire as only a cafe take out service and the queue was mostly over 30 mins long.   Loos almost as bad.  I portaloo (2 urinal and one trap) for ~500 blokes.  Not quite sure why covid prevents the normal loo blocks to be opened.  Not many Esprit's there this year - maybe a dozen and I think only Lionel on track.  Loads of M100s - great showing from LEC, and a fair cluster of Excel/Eclat/Elite.  Drivers mostly very well behaved on track which made it a real pleasure - managed 4 sessions + parade!  Great to catch up with a few old friends off here....

There were some loos behind the cafe place as well, took my own refreshments as I thought there would be quite a queue, but it was disappointing that the viewing areas around the circuit were closed so it was not possible to sit and watch the cars on track. I seem to remember years ago when I last went, you could go up the steps over the track entry/exit  and almost walk round the outside of the circuit, but this time it was padlocked. Had a chat with a guy who had an elite s2 auto sitting on an excel chassis, and a number of excel owners. As a previous owner of both these types it was good to see some still around. Journey back was long and hot... tiring on the left foot as well.

Good day with some fantastic weather for a change. Great to see a number of old faces and whilst I missed Mike I did see Lionel. There were a number Esprits but was really taken with a red S2 which looked fabulous and was owned by a lovely chap from Worcestershire.

Access to Quarry corner was blocked which was a shame but overall still lovely to see so many old friends.

Traffic was light on the way home today and the air con set to max. Fab weekend.

Having heard about the M5 we "nipped" down through Bristol onto the A37 and home that way.  Inevevitably Bristol centre was gridlocked and overall it was a 40 min longer journey than going up via the M5 in the morning ...but maybe better than the M5 queue South?? who knows?

I saw Peter M there with Jen and he'd tried to park in the usual spectators car park to get on the bank by Camp corner - Met with security people and told to move away.  In 31 years I've never seen access so restricted, and again I cant really see what they are achieving covid wise by not letting us spread out and see the rest of the track.  Some organisations do chose to interpret guidelines in weird and non-intuitive ways.

Sounds like I'm moaning - don't mean to, had a great time.  My mate Gary came with me this year and drove the Esprit up so that I could also take the M100.  Was great to split the sessions between the cars - completely different experiences - the Esprit more demanding but ultimately faster, the M100 easier to drive and lovely to be topless in the heat.

Good - you found me here as well! I remember our chat. I thought it was a good turnout all round but would LOVE to see more Eclats amongst what we will probably now call The Lotus Grand Tourers.

cheers, Richard
