Interesting! I had assumed that the exhaust on the launch car would never make it to production, but from what the Lotus guy says I would infer that it could indeed be the production exhaust just with the valve permanently open. Really hoping the Emira sounds as good as the Evora 410.

I can't imagine why it would not sound as good?

Fair enough. I wonder if they are going to build models with different exhaust configurations as the same laws would not apply here?

Does anything have to be done with the ECU if the exhaust configuration is changed? If that was the case it could be probable that the same exhaust configuration may end up here as well.

When Dan from R&H took me up the hill in the Emira at FOS, he put the car in Sport mode  and the exhaust sounded very nice. Dan did state at the time that the position of the valve was dependent on engine revs.

I suspect because Lotus are building the Emira as a "world car" that they will aim to meet most regulations in key markets without big changes from country to country.  There's a chance that leads to them meeting "worst case" on noise, but I suspect there will be some aftermarket tweaks that dealers and others will offer.  Valve override and filter/cat removal are fairly common.

I do think that Blue will be a very popular launch edition colour. As an aside, very surprised to see no-one wearing a mask in those pictures - just find it very interesting indeed as COVID has not suddenly disappeared.

Also based on this picture, I'm struggling to see how the Emira really moves the interior on!  It just looks like any other manufacturers interior now whether from Porsche to Hyundai via Mercedes and Audi.  It's all straight lines and boxy with an ipad glued on!  (obviously not really).

Compare it to the new 911 below it, but sorry, hate to say it and sound like Evo, Porsche won with the integrated screen into the dash, and I personally am still old school in liking real dials (I'm old, i get it...)! Although using Darth Vader's head for the gear selector was a bit corny!

A bit like an afterthought, someone asked where's the satnav etc was  and so they just stuck it in. Also seems a bit distracting.

Personally I don't need much out of a car interior. It just has to be comfortable and ergonomic, and at this price point I like to see some nice materials (which seems to be the case for the Emira). I would have preferred old-fashioned instruments over the TFT dash, though it does give the opportunity to do give useful data to the driver so as long as it's nicely laid out and tells me what I need I don't mind too much. As for the LCD in the centre console, well I think a touch screen in a car is a stupid idea. It sounds like Lotus have tried to keep the important controls as physical buttons which gets my approval (not that they were looking for it!). My overall opinion is; it looks fine. Same for the Porsche. I also quite liked the Evora interior, though the Emira does feel slightly more cohesive, I suppose thanks to them being able to tweak something off-the-shelf from Geely.

It may be worth adding that I'm in the minority of people that see the simplicity of the Elise/Exige interior as a good thing.

I prefer that integrated look - Quadrafoglio has the same.

However, dials now really date a car, fine on the right car. I never looked at them -ever - on my cars.

I do look at digital screens and they offer up a lot of information. Having a Sat Nav under your nose is definitely a good idea.

Each to their own. Either way, I was never looking for perfection and to me these are little things that won't mean a to$$ once I start the baby up.

If it has an engine, I am there to thrash it.

It seems to work for Audi, Mercedes and a myriad of others to be fair. Like many, I just think it looks naff/like an after thought. However, we seem to be in the minority as the majority seem to love it, love it, love it.....

I find that the TFT dashes are a great gimmick to woo people, but in daily use you just get used to them and most of the "extra useful" information that they provide is anything but useful. I just think we are in a trend right now where everybody expects an "ipad" experience for the presentation of data etc.  They're just a distraction to be honest and quickly just become meh a couple of months after you have stopped playing with them. What do you want, to experience the drive, or play on an iPad?

Im glad that Im not the only one who thinks the interior is the weak point. Its boring and tft displays and touchscreens just make it like any other car. I would have prefered an analogue rev counter as the main focal point with digital speed and other info.

Im not a porsche fan, far from it, but they seem to have it nailed on.

Prefer the set up in the Exige.

Looking forward to seeing the car on the 18th at Nottingham.

Ah, so you concede they are fun for 2 months! :)  Analogue offers nothing new at all.

We will all experience the drive equally. The vast majority will all ignore everything but the speed we are doing and the fuel left. Some might look at the revs. Both set-ups achieve this absolutely fine for this

Opinions are fine but...

I remember the same thing with motorcycles. Many still don't like LCDs and TFTs. Some still don't like ABS and other safety aids. That is fine. I'm not going to stress on the differences. The same job gets done at the end of the day.

I would have preferred an integrated second screen though - or none at all.

I now love seeing the speed at a glance. I have to squint to read it on the Bentley 😄

I agree that at least a big rev counter would have looked much better with screen on the side.

The center screen is alright I guess. Would have been better if it was inside the center console but it doesn't look too bad. At least it's not sticking out that much nor is it plonked right on top of the dash like in a GR Yaris or some Mercedes'.

The air vents do look rather meh though. That's the kind of design you got on cars in the 80's.

Bit what really annoys me are the vents below the central screen. Where are they blowing air at? Your gut? Those should have been on top of the dash like in pretty much every other car ever.

That said, I think it will look decent enough in a nice light tan leather. Hopefully that becomes a option.

PS. Are the any pictures of samples of the tan interior? I saw some pictures on the previous page on not sure if the tan one was on there but the one in between the black and red looked more like orange.

The Evora does that already yawn.

Yep, I am one of those people  However, as I passed 60 (years, not MPH) I'm now struggling to see the tiny digits on my analogue clocks and the idea of a 1" high digital readout is becoming significantly more attractive

I hope that the screens on the Emira have some decent configurability - I thought the options on the AIM dash for the Exige/Elise were a bit lame, very poor choice of screen layouts for your money :(
