Yeah @C8RKHbut what will the gearbox take???

And please don’t mention the clutch"

Not aware of cars with the komotec 430, 460, 475 or even 490 conversions having clutch/gearbox issues. That's the sort of doomsaying I'd expect from a Remainer Barry!

Thanks @Evotion and @Simon Batemanfor understanding that my post was in no way a dig/criticism of the Emira. Also the fact is with all that carbon and focused tweaking the Evora 410 Sport is just gorgeous. Did mention the gorgeous carbon?

I Know lots on here will be going through boxes of tissues re the cup holders, DCT, digital dash, climate control, driver aids, and big heavy seats etc. But that just does not flip my switches.

I can get all that now, without a near 2 year wait, with a helluver lot more performance from a 570 still under warranty. Yes, the 570 is not new but just like with women, I don't feel the need to HAVE to be the first to appreciate what is on offer!

My car plus £35k and a 2 year wait gets me the Emira I'd spec today but without the extra performance I would want, especially in 2 years.. My car plus £35k gets me into a dream car today!

Hmmmmm. Food for thought.

In 2 years the waiting lists for Emira will be reduced. Hopefully the R will be out so a great time to shift the 570 on for a more stripped out, raw, lighter, carbon draped Emira.

The Emira is a stunning achievement by Lotus. Just not sure in Launch spec it is the car I'd want and the more sportier, less GT models to come, will make me yearn them more!

The 570S/650S Spyder and 600LT were on my shortlist. I would have only bought from a dealer who knew the car with the one year warranty. These modern variants are more rbust than older models but the £4k per year for each new year of extended warranty and that nagging fear of reliability put me off in the end.

To be honest, I loved everything about them but the way they sounded - for me.  Still a great car regardless and the 570S now looks to be a bargain.

If it has an engine, I am there to thrash it.

+1 and I know a few, specially EX-460, close to 500nm

@Evotion buying from a McLaren dealer or with the official McLaren renewable warranty is the only option

Yes, you do need to budget for the £3k pa warranty, so realistically £5k per year for warranty servicing

I've considered jumping in to something else for the next 2 years to see where the Emira goes.

Let's see what happens....

About the i4, maybe just maybe they kept the power down to 360ish for reliability issues? The engine is capable of more but on a front engine car with a lot of cooling. Maybe cooling is not sufficient on the mid engine configuration?

For example, the Alpine i4 engine is capable of more than 295hp but they do have cooling issues once it's placed where it is. OK, gearbox torque figure is also a limiter in the Alpine case but still.

Possibly emissions. Carbon tax is already a real thing in some countries (like mine, expect 40K EUR in additional tax just for the V6) and the EU is starting to push that as well. One dealer reported they've managed to keep the I4 at 180 g/km CO2 emissions, which for the moment keeps it out of the most expensive tax bracket.

I think they can probably solve the cooling issue but would be interesting to see what effect running a big 'ol turbo in the back of the car will have. that's going to need some serious airflow. Doesn't it normally sit in front of the engine directly in the airflow through the grill? Does that mean it will be at the back in the Emira? I presume that they will duct air from the drivers side intake straight to the turbo area and shufty it rapidly out under the rear glass. Will be interesting to see the solution once someone has their hands on one.

A friend of mine is on his second 720s. He has the spider now.

The engine and main mechanicals seem fairly bullet proof, but he has had corrosion issues on both cars.

All sorted under warranty and I suspect a 12 to 18 month old car in the dealer network should have already been sorted if these issues and the other usual known problems had been present.

I suspect a two year warranty could be negotiated with the dealer 😀

Yeah, having one for 2 years would be good.   I was likely also put off by some youtubers such as Jayemm.

Ah, the other reason. I lived in Woking for 15 years - saw them every other day :)

Two a penny down there 😀😀

They are special cars and good value by comparison to lambo's and Fezza's.

The 570s is super quick for the money, but as an owner I'd not sleep at night without a full Macca warranty.

I've been out in the 720 and the acceleration is bonkers.....and like nothing else I've experienced.

It seems AMG already had it figured out:

https://whipdt.wordpress.com/2019/09/23/larger-amgs-to-get-2-0-litre-engine-from-the-a45-s-report/amp/

Besides there are no less than four ducts (side intakes) channelling air from the side of the car to the engine bay.  Lotus could dedicate one or two these to turbo cooling specifically and just like they added a gearbox cooler to the V6, they could have designed a cooling apparatus for the turbo too. I'm not worried this is not Lotus first rodeo and now they have the full might of the Geely group behind them so using one or two supercomputers to run simulations or leaving an engine on a dyno for months to see how it is going to work out in the long run is not an issue.

The news is that Emira is a launch success, orders are coming and pushing MW to have a look at bringing forward decision that they wanted to make by year two of production.  If they can go double shift from 2022 that means about 9000 thousand Emira alone and with the first lifestyle vehicle now just months away Lotus is set for a massive leap in terms of production numbers. I heard they expected 15-20000 sales a year for the SUV alone

Yeah, China has the capacity for this apparently. Amazing.

Double shift has been confirmed for the Emira by two sources. It might have to be the treble shift the way things are looking and that still might mean some people will not get one in 2022 if they leave it too much longer..

They will make that decision on global firm orders in the autumn/fall.

So, Lotus Emira's will potentially be more common than Nissan GTRs, Bentley GTs, Porsche's, Mazda MX5's, Audi RS's!

I didn't buy into Lotus to be mainstream so if it just becomes another badge you see every day at the Golf club, at the pub, does that mean people rethink that Porsche purchase? I'm reading and waiting for @blindside's GT4 updates even more. However I could keep my 410 and buy a coxster for a convertible daily driver, something Lotus cannot provide me. I'm  not worried now re not having an Emira deposit down, but am kicking myself for not getting into an Exige 410/420 or Elise 240/250 Cup or Final Edition especially if 50:50 was on offer. One of those along with my Evora 410 and job done. Hmmm, where's that Autotrader app.......

Yeah, ha, a part of me is sad that there might be a lot more cars  over the years.  That first year will be epic though.

I was hoping I was going to get delivery of my cars and then the factory decides to go EV only for some reason :)

Given the delay on the i4 there is still a chance I don't get that and opt for an Exige for the track and mad road days.

Either way, I don't feel I can lose.

This is my attempt at the Legend livery.

Might need a few yellow stripes on the front, side and rear sills.

1-01.thumb.jpg.b61f8154ace9afca4181c4def42ce937.jpg

Not sure if I would put that on the i4 or V6.

The other car I am a bit stuck on. I like red with black everything or the yellow with black everything.

If they bring out a Black, come September, then I might get that and then add the JPS colours and get the wheels painted in the same gold.

Then get it all PPFd

If it has an engine, I am there to thrash it.

Welcome to TLF. :welcome:

Interesting post for your first one. What do you think we will see?

You should duck over to the Introductions are and say hi in there as well. :)

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Haha sorry didn't realize that was my first post here, been lurking for a couple months. The Emira will be more popular than say a GT-R for sure. But don't see how it could be as common as the MX5.

Maybe my perception is skewed because I own one but it seems like the MX5 is everywhere.

Funny isn't it. I hardly see MX-5's here in Geelong. I reckon I have only seen a handful. Since being in Geelong for the last 12 years, I have only ever had two people compliment the Esprit. Heaps at a Lotus club drive, but then that's expected.

Australia - different.

If I see one Emira, it'll be as common as my Esprit. :)

Where I live in Scotland I see more Porsche 911/Cayman/Boxster than I see MX5.  My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek @OliveJuice and was an exaggeration for effect - however, compared to Evora which sold less than 200 every year in the UK, Emira's selling at 2-3000+ per year will make them a regular sight and as such, as people become used to seeing them they will not have the "noticeable" effect.  People are not used to seeing an Evora so it is a rare and exotic beast. McLaren's, whilst every day in some parts of the south are rare sights elsewhere so get noticed. Same with Lambo's and Ferrari's. The Emira will be like the Audi TT - everywhere so not noticed, but most people notice an R8 despite them looking very similar. Porsches, well, a bit like tampons as every @@@@ seems to have one. As you see so many of them nobody pays them much attention (apart for the real GT cars).
