Hello to All from Florida, USA

Recommended Posts

Hi There!

Thank you for including me in your wonderful group.  I am a longtime enthusiast who cut his teeth on an early Nissan 280Z, Triumph Spitfire, two Gen 1 RX-7s, Toyota Supra, Porsche 944, Nissan 370Z, and currently drive a 2018 Audi TT RS.

I've recently retired to Jacksonville, Florida, USA and have begun researching my next car.  The introduction of the Emira has me seriously considering Lotus for the first time.  I have always admired the cars and was always a huge fan of the race team.

With the greatest respect for all the longtime owners, I admit to having some concerns over reliability, parts availability, cost of service, and the small dealer network in the US.  Are those concerns realistic?

While I do not expect "Toyota/Honda" reliability, I really don't want to purchase a car that is a constant source of aggravation because of niggling problems and long waits for even the simplest wear parts.  Again, are these concerns realistic?

My hope is the infusion of capital and technology by Geely will eliminate such thoughts.

As owners, especially those of you in the US, what are your experiences?  As their last ICE car, how far into the future will Lotus support the car?  Do any of you share the same concerns?

Your opinions and experience are greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Hi and welcome Mike. Lotus have had a huge, and I mean huge investment from their parent company as you mention and last year alone spent £100m on infrastructure at Hethel. With volumes increasing so does purchasing power so I'd hope that parts issues will be a thing of the past. Lotus are also well aware that this car is going to be bought by those other than the hardcore who accepted some of the issues you mention in return for their hand built sports car with many redeeming attributes and quality will be turned up to 11 with this in mind.

Servicing is now fixed cost too, my car which was £60k new can be serviced from £280 a year, I'd imagine a similar scheme will be in place for the Emira.

Welcome to TLF Mike. :welcome:

And the Toyota V6 is really reliable as well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to service.

Any questions or issues with using the forums, feel free to ask one of us mods. We're here to help. :)

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Thank you ramjet!

I've been watching numerous owner videos on YouTube, and all the reviews are quite positive.  Jay Leno posted a great Evora review.

I'm now wondering if I should purchase an Evora instead of an Emira, especially if the dealer starts discounting them.

Cheers!

Tough call. If you speak to a lot of Evora owners on here, the car gets high praise.

The Emira is a step (maybe more than one step?) up.

As an Evora owner, mine is 11 years old, I have only ever had one issue in 4 years and that was a cracked Spark Plug.

Lotus running gear/Engine makes for very reliable cars these days and as Bibbo says, they aren't expensive to run either!

Grab one before everything goes electric!

Thank you for the reply Kimbers!  I am seriously considering an Evora Gt instead of waiting for the Emira.

Cheers!

@gurneyeagle500 - get yourself into a GT for test drive. The last of the analogue, hand made ICE Lotus cars. The Evora is a superbly capable car. Took mine out last night for a wee spin. Stopped at a petrol station and an old guy comes wondering over and says "my, what a beautiful car do you have there...."  We spoke for about 10 minutes as he wanted to know about the all aluminium chassis, the V6, the super charger and the rolls of carbon fibre on the car.

When the Emira finally hits the road the Evora will still be a beautiful car. Will still look superb. I know a lot of people are looking to chop in early, but not me, as my Evora gives me what I want - performance. looks. AND exclusivity and by the looks of it the Emira will lose on that last point as everyone will see them every where lol....

Alcohol. Sex. Tobacco. Drugs. Chocolate.  Meh! NOTHING in this world is as addictive as an Evora +0. It's not for babies!

The first guy to ride a bull for fun, was a true hero. The second man to follow him was truly nuts!
