Help and Advice Please

A bit late as painting is done , but..... I need to make a decision about my tailgate and latch.

At some point in history the tailgate has been changed to a later 'two latch'  type , which I understand is better . But the body has the latch in the middle . So currently they don't marry

Are any if you familiar with converting the 'single' boot release mechanism to a 'twin' and what parts are needed ?

Thanks Ali

Ok  - Help needed on part

No doubt an insanely silly question , but can anyone remind me what this part is ?

I am reassembling the body/ interior and saw this in my box and have honestly no idea what it is

I looked through the workshop manual and could t identify either

Thanks

Ali

That is a bracket which serves to stand off the brake servo and M/C from the firewall. You'll see correlation between holes in the bulkhead with flanges at one end, studs on the servo for the other.

Help please - advice

I noticed on my restoration that the rear offside hub has a play in it when the suspension moves up and down ( see video )

Can anyone tell me if that is usual .The other side seems more 'firm' . I can't see any adjustment either

Thanks

Ali

Don't worry - it's not on the road. The body is still off the car .

Does anyone have any idea how this 'fixes' against the hub/drive shaft .  I've had it apart and couldn't see anything obvious , other than it is loose

The outward end of the drive shaft fits into a sealed bearing that has been pressed into the allow hub carrier. A lock nut with a end washer tightens up the hub on the splines against the bearing, and is locked in place with a split pin. Nothing more complex than that.

You'd have to remove the shaft from the rear (inward side) of the bearing and investigate further.

Thanks David .

I did take the split pin and lock nut off and the plat at the front to reveal the end of the splined drive shaft . Nothing amiss on that side ....but as you say I will have to bite the bullet and remove it completely to see behind .It's weird . Maybe the bearing is not pressed in properly or the retaining circlip is missing ?

.thanks for the reply .

I will take a look during the week

I have seen one case in which significant play at the wheel rim was down to deterioration of the carrier casting due to neglected maintenance. The owner took it to a machinist where the carrier was bored and fitted with a new sleeve in AL for the wheel bearing. The car continues in service after decades since the fix. As the halfshaft is fixed length element of the suspension unwarranted play at the rim may also be down to failing output shaft bearing at the transaxle. As designed there are no adjustments applicable in this, bits are either in good fettle and properly assembled or something is in need of repair.

Hope this helps.

With that amount of movement either the bearing has collapsed completely or, as you suggest, the circlip is not in place - allowing the whole bearing to slide backwards and forwards in the casting (wrecking the casting in the process).

That headlining looks excellent . Would you mind pm'ing me the cost  ?

What are you doing about the leather /trim of the dash beam ?

Also , do you know how the passenger air vent is removed from the beam ?

Hi

Thanks - I'm really pleased too.

I had the headline and the front header rail with visors all at once - which cost around £600 in total , but no way I was ever going to get that nice stitched finish myself  . Also Fulcher made a really good job of the lining as it is doubled backed and has a nice soft feel, also it stops the glue bleeding through when stuck to the roof.

The Dash and all the other panels in my car are in really good condition but faded . I have been using brown suede dye ( as it doesn't go hard) to gradually restrain it back . I'm about halfway as it is no longer faded green, but not quite brown enough yet .

Regarding the vent - mmm. I took that off over a year ago, but I'm pretty sure from memory that it had a returning self tapping screw at each end fixing it to the dash. Mine was rusted through and I have sourced a new one from SJ. Not fitted yet

That's a great idea!

That headlining is just superb, as original as it can get. :)

It's getting there......

Spitting image of how mine looked. Not a stickler for original so I'm heading off to graphite leather on Alcantara, thinking the metal trims may smarten up with fine grade sanding.

Mating in progress  ……. But help needed please :)

So, this weekend it happened . A year after paint the body is now back on the car!  Woooo hooo.  Pictures to follow in a day or so.

Firstly a shout out to Tony from Cartune Uk who came out last week and cast his expert eye and Krypton machine over the timing and Dellorto setup prior to mating the body and chassis. Now the car idles and runs really nicely .

Having reinstated the aircon pipes that had been cut off and removed by a previous owner I am now trying to work out how they route correctly from the passenger side of the body across the engine bay to the compressor. I can’t see any images in the manuals ? Does anyone know / have pictures or can describe where they go?

Any help/ advice gratefully received

Ali
