Outdoor storage for new car

Recommended Posts

I am looking for outdoor storage / garage / protection for when my car arrives in 3 months. I have looked at carcoon (a bit of a palaver getting it in a out easily), and airchamber amongst other things. I know there's an outdoor cover you can get from this site which looks pretty good - has anyone got any suggestions?

A mate of mine uses a carcoon to store one of his Esprits (the other one is a permanent resident in my Workshop) and is very happy with it. It even stood through a couple of winter storms with no ill effect. I must admit he doesn't drive it often, so getting in and out easily is not his priority.

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

thanks Escape, agree with you that if I was hardly gonna use the car i'd get a carcoon but looking for something such a palaver with reasonably regular use (likely a couple of times a week after the honeymoon period).

If you have space for a carcoon and don't mind looking at it then would not a small metal garage (or large shed) do the job better? Only need something just large enough for the Elise, or even just a roofed car port/gazebo type arrangement. Probably wouldn't cost much more than a carcoon anyway.

Or even:

Blessed with the competence to be a slave to the incapable.

Currently without a Lotus, Evora 400 Hethel Edition in Racing Green with Red leather and 2010 Evora N/A in Laser Blue and 1983 Lotus Excel LC Narrow body in Ice Blue all sadly gone.

Does anyone use one of these? They're pretty cheap at the moment and I'm thinking of getting one for in the drive. Tarmac on one side and grass on the other so I can anchor one side into the grass and get some steel weights for the other. The drive is enclosed on 3 sides by the house/hedges so not too windy there.

Only ever had good reports @Bibs, know two people who have them and think they are brilliant. They use them for gardening sit on mowers, a small garden tractor etc. I think as long as you check the pegs on a regular basis you should be fine and good value for money to be honest.

  • Thanks 1

Alcohol. Sex. Tobacco. Drugs. Chocolate.  Meh! NOTHING in this world is as addictive as an Evora +0. It's not for babies!

I have got one and use it for my Esprit. Posted on here about it a couple of years ago (I think).

Great quality. Really tough. Good ground anchors for grass but have not really worked out how to fix it to my (concrete paved) driveway.

Easy to open and get the car in and out.

I see two problems. 1) difficult to roll the door up by one person - solution put a piece of bamboo in the slot at the bottom of the door; 2) condensation - my solution for this is fitting a loose cover in the roof which catches the condensation or leave the door open. Since mine is in a protected, North facing position, this is not an issue.

Would definitely recommend it but I reckon it needs a bit of ventilation.

Thanks for all the replies - a lot to look at.  I think I'm going to go for one from these guys https://www.canvasandnylon.co.uk/portable-garages/

The stand-up portable garage made from breathable and waterproof canvas (to combat condensation).

Will let you guys know how I get on - though I know there's about a 7 week wait for one.

Happy New Year to all of you as well!

We've had exceptionally nice weather today, so I got a chance to end 2021 in the Jag with the top down. In my favorite christmas sweater and the heater on. 😎
