I actually don't think mine is the other Emira, if any Lotus was it, it would be an Exige 4xx Sport.

However, I would still like something half-practical but I can't stomach a full electric car right.

Being a past owner of a Alfa 147 GTA many years ago. Three years ownership from new and never a ounce of trouble and always put a smile on my face. It would have to be one of these, the Giulia GTA, looked stunning in the flesh at the festival of Speed.

We are just picking up our G31 540iX tomorrow to run as a "pupwagon". After some minor tuning it should make a nice garage roommate to the Emira.

The 540ix is a great choice, but if money was no object for me it would have to be the Alpina B5. Rare, classy, understated, practical but bloomin quick and way cooler than an RS6 🙂 Only downside with both the RS6 and the B5 is that they might make an Emira feel slow.

I'd go the opposite direction on these choices, since the Emira would be the fast / really fun / sports car, I'd be looking at something with a different brief altogether.  The german marques don't hold any interest for me whatsoever, so I'd probably be looking at a Lexus RX450h or perhaps a Jaguar i-Pace - seen a few around and they look quite smart, though I know very little about them!

I've already made that decision and bought my forever stablemate for the Emira over the summer.  My wife has the family/sensible car, so I can have a practical sportscar (Emira) and a pared-back driving machine (Exige).

Yeah, I might still go this way Tom at some point late next year if I feel the 4CYL does not cut it as a track car. 

The thing is, for me, the i4 Emira actually looks incredible value and at least £20k cheaper than a second hand 410 Sport even.

Can I just keep my beater Swift Sport from the long long ago? It's small, quick, fun, I can trash it around, and it's worth nothing so I don't mind all the door dents and scratches from taking it into town. And if I crash it into a tree, who cares?

Then I can use the money to actually build a garage!

If I can't keep my Swift Sport for this thought exercise... maybe still keep the money to build the garage, and let my girl park her car in the second spot? Incidentally, also an aging quick Swift 😂

I have never been a massive Alfa fan, but that is stunning.

no question the D4 will be recognised as an absolute design classic in the future, and despite not being tactile like a lotus - a real event to drive. 😎

Id probably keep my RX7 as it’s a childhood dream car for me. The MR2 slot is being replaced by the V6 Emira, so that and the RX7 (and the little MX5) would be the garage. However I have been growing quite fond of the Elise and the GR Yaris. So (sticking with the £100k budget) I’d probably have an Elise 250 cup or 240 Sport, with a GR Yaris and the Emira! 

If it had to be limited to just 2 cars, then it’s a tough one. I don’t need practicality so probably an AMG Emira (as a daily) with something like this (Exige Final Edition) https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/11637078  

Either that, or the V6 Emira with a GR Yaris

Totally agree! I can't say I haven't already thought about how to get the funds for it.

If I had a combined 170k to spend and wouldn't have to think about a family car, I wouldn't get a Emira+something. Instead I'd get a manual Ferrari F430 with the challenge wheels, a tan or white interior in either red or blue. Or have a F1 converted to manual. I think both can be done within the budget

I did look at this, and a 458.  It was bloody close but in the end a few factors made the decision easier.

• For the same price I went with 2 Emiras. - one V6 for the road and the i4 for the track/thrashing
• Brand new cars! Not 2012 or even older for the 430 (at the budget)
• Nice new warranties 
• Less stress worrying about driving it and parking it  (very real trauma if you have ever owned a supercar)
• Also rare an initially will be super rare and nobody will have a clue what it is
• Dealer is 25 minutes from me
• Running costs might be anywhere from a 1/3rd to 1/5th of the Ferraris

Against all that, I see the two Ferraris getting to £200k in my lifetime so there is that to consider. Love to buy one anyway and bring it out on special days and events but what is the point in that anyway!
