Fuel shortage

Was out and about last night. Passed 5 petrol stations in Dundee and no queues or issues. The petrol station who allowed that guy to fill up that container (if it is real) should be heavily fined as that breaks all the rules and if that trailer was in an accident I hate to think of the consequences and I hope he does not leave it parked in full sunlight for too long.

Surely can't be real. Maybe someone new on the tills mis-read the rules 2 500litre containers - not getting the (decimal) point.

It’s weird isn’t it? 99% of the time Joe Public doesn’t take a blind bit of notice of news stories and political debate, but the moment someone mentions “shortages”, they immediately become mobilised and head off to the corresponding retailer to queue up for hours and panic buy. Like the above post states, NOTHING has changed from last week. Brexit was completed 9 months ago. What’s all this bollocks the other day about only having 10 days to “save Christmas” due to HGV driver shortages? Another excuse to panic buy in advance? Frozen turkey this year then!

How ironic is this:-

The hgv driving school by me has been doing lessons on a Sunday to help clear the backlog,today the two being taught spent 2 hours queuing for diesel and then they had run out. They returned to the yard.

Just been out for an A to A drive in my Ferrari. I passed two petrol stations. Both were busy, maybe 4 or 5 cars deep, but not queuing out onto the street. It looked like the V-Power at the Shell was gone, but I think the other grades were available. I hate queuing for anything, so will just wait until all of our nation’s 30 million vehicles are full to the brim and pop back when the place is deserted.

Fuel a bit sparse everywhere by the looks today. Came back from B&Q last night on fumes in the van - managed to fill up at a rural garage with no waiting at all.

To be fair, it was government minister Paul Scully that told people not to panic buy on Thursday. As soon as he sad that it was obvious that that is exactly what people would be doing.

p.s. I haven't. I have 3/4 of a tank full in the Volvo which should last me 2 or 3 weeks

I have 20l of unleaded I drained from the Esprit to change the tanks that I'll exchange for a Christmas Turkey 😛

Errr, maybe because Gas is largely piped directly to the house (not always, but largely in the UK) and last time I looked there weren't any HGV drivers in a gas pipe.

Also pretty sure you'll find billions is a tad over exaggerated. You don't work for the BBC do you by any chance? 

BBC Breakfast programme this morning was inflaming the shortage issue - Reporter "So what would you say to drivers?"  Petrol Station owner "We've got loads of petrol. there is no shortage in the UK"  Reporter "So there you have it, this independent in Kidderminster has loads of petrol but nationally there's a shortage" - muppet.

Sally Nugent - "please get in touch, tell us how bad it is where you are" - the brains of a newt!  Typical of the BBC to fan the flames of discontent/scaremonger

On the bbc they will blame it all on brexit. Doesn’t matter similar issues are being experienced all over the world presently it still must be brexits fault.

Starting in about 4 weeks time, 5 nights each week for the following 8 weeks or so, I'll be trucking a trailer-load of trees (freshly cut in the Scottish Highlands) down to our satellite depot in Stoke-on-Trent for onward shipment to various locations 'darn sarth' - I'll let you know where if you want to beat the queues?

I remember during a previous fuel shortage, a taxi driver filling up his wheely bin with petrol.   Seemed like a good idea until the petrol melted the bin....
