Gold FFM Escape Posted December 20, 2021 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 20, 2021 The petition is for UK residents only I assume? Over here pretty much all modifications have been illegal for many years. The only exception being classic cars as they were exempted from our MOT. But now they need to be tested every 2 of 5 years as well, and that has caused a lot of problems for some owners. Brake upgrades for example are a definite fail, regardless of the spec and quality of the upgrade... Quote I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them. Well that's just bonkers, eg folks upgrade old drums to discs, for extra safety.. Signed up.

Indeed, just bonkers. For example on older Land Rovers it's easy to swap in axles with disc brakes, but if they see that at MOT (and know it's supposed to have drums) it's a fail... 1 Quote I have made many mistakes in my life. Justin A friend/ customer has a very nicely prepped TR6 that is driven like it should. He went to great lengths (and expenses) to get the front brakes uprated, with bigger discs and better calipers. At his first MOT he was told to put it back to standard or they couldn't let him pass... 2 Quote I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them. exeterjeep
All those TV show that upgrade brakes etc, will have to show the viewers how to undo the work. What happens if original spec parts are no longer available then surely you have to fit an upgrade.

Most aftermarket shocks feature adjustable spring mounts. Technically, this is a fail on the MOT. I always managed to convince the testers it was standard, a friend was less lucky and had no choice but to fit a used set of originals (or shell out for a Lotac set...). In both offroad and tuning circles it's very common to have people spend considerable time reversing modifications to their vehicles just to get tested, and then install them again. Been there, done that with my Defender. 2 Quote I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.
