Rumours started by the head of an energy company while sat on his yacht in Monaco?

It’s all part of the “game” that has become rife amongst many companies over the past year.

Warn the general public, who many companies regard and rest as idiots, that prices are going to increase by 50% and then increase by 35% instead of the 10% that can just about be justified and the companies are happy that their profits have increased whilst “the idiots” are believed to be happy because the 50% increase never happened.

Sorry for being so cynical but whilst the example figures given are  just that, an example, the psychology behind it is not entirely untrue.

Workers think they have won a small battle and the Govt, which knew it should be giving 7-10%

Don't see many Private Sector workers, who PAY for the Public Sector, getting 7-10% wage increases, across the board, whether good workers or bad, lazy shysters or conscientious gems. So why in 2022 do we still not have "performance related pay" in the Public Sector based on how well a person performs, as opposed, to how long they've been doing a good or a shit job for!

Nope sorry, I totally disagree in this day and age with the concept of "collective bargaining" and everyone getting paid the same regardless of the outcomes that they deliver. That is why we have such huge waste and inefficiency in the Public Sector as eventually, even the conscientious gems get worn down and realise that they get nothing extra for their labours, innovations, etc. It's one of the most unfair reward systems ever, but the sacred bastion of the Unions to protect the lazy fookwits.

The energy crisis is what is driving most of this inflationary pressures imho.

The cost of generation on renewables simply has not changed - yes gas has - but then a lot of our power is nuclear.

The government now needs to fix this market to make it work for the people and the country.

Well said @Frickin_idiot and very true. So easy to blame whomever is in power today and overlook the failures of those who could have changed the course over the past 30 years.

We've kicked the can down the road for 30 years, now we're paying the price for it.

Seems we haven't cracked this electricity generation malarkey.

So when it goes above 25C solar panels aren't very effective

Hydro power down due to water shortages

Nuclear generation restricted due to using water for cooling.

As we import electricity quite often - the problems in Europe are also going to affect us.

We have nowhere to store it Barry. In 2013 Energy Minister Fallon decided to close down the Rough Gas Storage field as the Government wanted to save £750m over ten years in maintenance costs. So £75m a year. Seems peanuts when you look at how much is now being paid to consumers to help with their bills.

Just another example of short term political intervention to hurt everyone.

Same with the drought, do you know that the last public water supply reservoir was built 31 years ago. Since then the population has gone from 54m to 65m. So is the problem ALL down to climate change, or just frankly totally shite short term politic decision making.

Reference reservoirs - there is a perfectly good reservoir less than one km from my home, completely and utterly empty having been decommissioned twenty years ago. Considering the increase in the number of homes it is / was a total nonsensical decision.

Another unknown fact...

Scotland has more water in Loch Ness than all the reservoirs and dams in Eeeengeerlaand and Wales put together 😲

No kidding, it's Scotland's water 😉

Don't give Wee Krankie any more daft ideas Barry. Or if you do, make sure you patent them first 👍

Where did this gas come from we couldn’t store ?

Er, the North Sea and the Irish Sea. Where did you think it came from?

We also have a large capacity to regas LNG shipments - but little space to store that and most of Lancashire is shitting on billions cubic meters of gas we could frack.

Well we didn’t need to remove it if we didn’t need to use it and had no place to store it.

spot the bad planning and blatant profiteering of resources.

For the reservoirs, they need to start making them subterranean. Other countries have huge underground reservoirs, have a guess what happens when it's sunny and bloody hot... That's right, nothing. The water is underground so it's still there and doesn't just evaporate like ours.
