Paul Matty - closing end of April

Recommended Posts

Had a few calls with Paul Matty about 1 of their ebay items.

They told me that the parts business has been sold, will re-open somewhere, sometime, supposed to be bigger and better.

The cars sales side of PM will close its doors at the end of the month. I assume then the site will be redeveloped and also the service side of the business goes as well.

The remaining cars will then have to be off loaded in the trade.  Also some showroom stuff seems to be up for sale as well.

I drive past PM occasionally,  and noticed a month or two ago, that his former showroom was now a totally unrelated business.

If this is the end of Paul Matty, then it is a sad day for the entire Lotus community.

@exeterjeep I think this is the new parts business.

Lover of everything Lotus Cars and proud owner of production Evora No.75 (2nd UK customer specced car by VIN). Originally from the Far East....of Anglia, I read black box data for a living so that could explain a lot!

Classic Team Lotus extends parts service

Acquisition of Paul Matty Sportscars Parts Business.

For many years, Paul Matty has been a leading light in Lotus classic cars. Paul Matty Sportscars developed into a principal supplier of parts, both direct to owners and to other classic car specialists.

Recently, Paul made it known that he had decided to retire from the classic Lotus road car parts supply business. For some time, Classic Team Lotus has been considering extending its parts service, so this opportunity was well timed, accelerating our ambition into reality.

We now have the enviable task of relocating the Paul Matty 'Lotus Treasure' to Hethel; getting things organised then continuing to offer this vital support to customers to help them keep their wonderful cars on the road.

Clive Chapman comments: "I have enjoyed knowing Paul for many years and admire him for doing so much to celebrate and support the history of the marque. I am pleased that Classic Team Lotus has acquired his 'Lotus Treasure' and we will do our best to maintain and build upon such an important resource for Lotus owners worldwide. A big 'thank you' to Paul for entrusting us with this exciting opportunity."

It will be interesting to see how many of the classic Lotus cars will be supported. Suppose CTL have experience of making low volume parts, may be they can extend this to the various road cars.

Perhaps they would be able to make parts for some more modern cars, we all know how many parts the factory always seem to have on back order.

That's great news!👍

This should be a big help when trying to keep our classic Lotus on the road.

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

Good news for classic Lotus (not just Classic Lotus) and a positive step toward my musings in the second paragraph of my post from a couple of years ago. 🧐:D

https://www.classicsportscarsltd.co.uk looks to have taken over servicing side of PM.

website says....

Classic Sports Cars owner Tim Garrington previously worked for the well-known Lotus Specialist Paul Matty where he gained years of experience on all Lotus models covering servicing, repairs, restorations and preparation of road and race cars.

With Paul’s retirement, Classic Sports Cars will be looking after Paul Matty Sportscars existing customers using the same staff who will also be moving across. This will mean the same familiar faces, with the same extensive knowledge, providing the same quality services to customers.

If you scroll down to Cropley’s Wednesday entry, he states that “he remembers ex-Lotus boss Mike Kimberley and his gang taking over Lamborghini for a bit in the 1990s and thinking they were the men for the job”.

I didn’t know that. How did it turn out?

Well. Diablo Roadster was one of MJK's achievements during his time at Chairman there but ill health forced his retirement from the company, he suffered a heart attack from overwork while on a helicopter commute! @Kimbers can explain more

Thanks for the information! The mention of the Diablo Roadster reminded me of a bright yellow one turning up at a local classic car meet. Everyone stopped and stared. The driver got out and was the spitting image of Peter Stringfellow in looks and fashion sense. If ever a car suited its owner, it was that one!

Classic Team Lotus extend their parts service with the acquisition of Paul Matty Sportscars Parts Business......................
So we need a 'Stores Person' to look after our newly acquired valuable classic Lotus road car spare parts.
Liaising with our 'Classic Road Car Parts Manager' you will look after our stores based at our Hethel facility.
Stores management experience and Lotus Classic car knowledge would be an advantage.
If you are interested please send your details and CV to [email protected]
Thank you.

Is that the company car that comes with the job? 😍

I look forward to the opening of the store/website for customers!

Or may be a residence to call home.

Did think that Ketteringham had been sold off and so was no longer a Lotus building.

It is still in the family, run by Jane Chapman (daughter) and her husband/partner Will.  The house is used for office and business events, and you can stay in the grounds and I've heard it has a great tea room with great breakfasts. Got to be worth a local "Lotus Club" drive out.....

Alcohol. Sex. Tobacco. Drugs. Chocolate.  Meh! NOTHING in this world is as addictive as an Evora +0. It's not for babies!

Yep, had a look at the web site, looks like weddings as well. But that there was no mention of the current owners. Would have thought that there was room for a small souvenir shop for its Lotus history. And it would be an interesting place to spend a weekend - eg combine with a factory visit or even pick up a new car. Have visited it twice in the past.
