Bibs
It won't be long until people are getting their cars and of course some will come up for sale. This topic is to discuss those cars and pricing etc as the Emira hits the used market. 1 Quote 88 Esprit NA, 89 Esprit Turbo SE, Evora, Evora S, Evora IPS, Evora S IPS, Evora S IPS SR, Evora 400, Elise S1, Elise S1 111s, Evora GT410 Sport Evora NA For forum issues, please contact the Moderators. scotty435
With a long waiting list for new deposit holders there could be cars coming to the used market with owners asking for overs list price.
Gold FFM Evotion Posted July 4, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted July 4, 2022 I expect so. There will be people with deep pockets who will want one at any cost. We don't know yet what the overs will be. As time has gone on, even more people have seen the Emira and desire one. There is a very real appetite to acquire one and cut out the huge waiting list - which will get longer. It would not surprise me to see a car listed at £100k but with most selling in the lows 90s and high 80s. My personal belief is that car is already a bargain and if the car was £88k that Lotus would still have been over-subscribed. Quote If it has an engine, I am there to thrash it. Gold FFM TomE Posted July 4, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted July 4, 2022 There have been a handful of people sounding out the market to either sell their car straight away (a few with changed circumstances rather than just flipping for a profit) or looking to buy one to jump the queue. Some as high as £100k but most in the £90k range. If anyone is prepared to wait a few months, remember the UK dealer demo cars will remain owned by Lotus and they will rotate them after about 5-6 months and sell them. I don't know if that'll be handled centrally, as part of this new direct model, or if they'll be offered to dealers to re-sell. I know they'll be looking to price them around the market rate at the time, as they don't want to undermine values, so that may be above list if the market is hot. If you see one that's in a spec you like then it might be worth expressing an interest to the dealer and/or Hethel.
JimH
I would imagine that ex-factory/dealer demo cars will probably end up here whether Hethel handles used Emiras under the approved used scheme or lets dealers do it. However, with Stratton Motor Company now a Service Centre only it begs the question of which dealer for ex-factory cars, even if actual dealer demo's go through the dealer where they are located (which would make sense...) https://www.lotuscars.com/en-GB/vehicles/?condition=approved https://www.lotuscars.com/en-GB/approved-used-information/
Gold FFM TomE Posted July 4, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted July 4, 2022 That makes sense. They'll end up on there, either tagged to a dealer or assigned to HQ for national delivery. I've also heard there will be a central pool of demo cars, so for example if a dealer has a customer wanting to test drive an auto and their demo is manual then they can have an auto from the Hethel fleet temporarily.

Gold FFM C8RKH Posted July 4, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted July 4, 2022 Will never understand why anyone would pay £10-20k ABOVE the market price just to have something early. Yeah yeah, people will want, but then why not just get on the list earlier? £10-20k just to scratch an itch. Oh well, times must not be as hard as everyone thinks. I'm not convinced any "overs" will last longer than a month, maybe two. This is NOT a Porsche GT car that is harder to get hold off than an STD in a convent! This is a Lotus, that is NOT limited in terms of numbers they will build, or in terms of you need a special invitation AND to sell a kidney, possibly two, to get one. Love the enthusiasm. Love the exuberance. But at some point if you don't stop sniffing the coke you'll end up in a world of pain. I guess time will tell if I've had one too many hash cakes myself. 1 1 Quote I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way. Popular Post Bibs
People will pay more because they can, and they want the car once they see/discover it. It is limited in terms of availability insomuch that there's a 12+ month waiting list at the moment so people will pay extra to have it sooner. No, it's not a Porsche where you have to offer your first born to the dealer to be in with a chance of an early delivery and prices won't be as mad as they seem to attract but to many sports car fans, £10-20k isn't even noticed in the big scheme of their bank balances. Apple seem to have done well convincing teenagers to spend £1,400 on a phone which will be a grand cheaper in a years time. #21stcenturyconsumers 3 Quote 88 Esprit NA, 89 Esprit Turbo SE, Evora, Evora S, Evora IPS, Evora S IPS, Evora S IPS SR, Evora 400, Elise S1, Elise S1 111s, Evora GT410 Sport Evora NA For forum issues, please contact the Moderators. jep
Elise S1 premiums lasted a few years. First cars August 1996, I bought one in May 1998 at list and could have sold for at least 15% profit. Prices didn't soften until 1999. Lotus can fetch a premium if the product is what the market wants. I really hope the Emira is red hot for them. Wake
I think prices will hold in the short term similar to the GR Yaris which are still trading above list. They made 25,000 limited of course, but would it not take Lotus a few years to make up that total amount of both I4 and V6 models? Are there plans to continue the V6 for the life of the Emira? I recall reading about Lotus buying a bulk order of the V6 from Toyota and when it’s gone it’s gone. Probably complete shite though
Gold FFM MJON Posted July 6, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted July 6, 2022 Several brand’s early used models continue to command higher than list price. So unless Emira quality receives an early thumbs down it’s a no brainer early investment car and that will continue for some considerable time. Just IMO can foresee one year low mileage cars trading at double percentage points over list.

Gold FFM C8RKH Posted July 6, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted July 6, 2022 (edited) Yup. But if we want to be pedantic, nothing on the "market" so anything we discuss is just BS conjecture. Prices will remain strong imvho for the first year. After that, normal service which will be glacial depreciation after the first 20% hit. It'll still be a low volume car in a low volume market so will not crash like an M4 etc. Edited July 6, 2022 by Bravo73 1 Quote I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. Gold FFM Evotion Posted July 6, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted July 6, 2022 I still say that an owner will never see the V6 Emira go down below the price paid. In short: Demand + Overs + later Emira prices rising a lot will keep them propped up. Plus, I still think the V6 run will be shorter than people think and eventually, of course, it will be a LOT less than the i4 version. 1 Quote If it has an engine, I am there to thrash it.
