Hi and welcome Martin. That garage certainly has an Esprit sized hole in it! It's a safe place for your money as they're appreciating at the moment and I may know of a very good condition and well looked after one for sale locally for you.

Where in Kent are you? I'm based up by West Malling.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm near Staplehurst. Pop me some details on a DM about the Esprit.. I could be tempted, though would probably need to be a later one with the 'neater' trim.

Ah, this is a S3 Turbo Esprit. Sounds like you're after a GT3 or V8!

No no, correct me if I'm wrong but the S3 had the slightly tighter trim versus the 'ruched' Playboy mansion look. That's the one I don't think I could live with.

I'd love a tidy S3 turbo! I don't dislike the Peter Stevens design but I wouldn't buy one, would have to be the Giugiaro.

I've only ever seen one S3 Turbo that didn't have the rushed trim to the door cards, arm rests etc,  and the owner had had it re-trimmed by a company who said it was going to be too difficult to match the effect and that they couldn't guarantee the results.

Having said that they had done a very good job and the owner was very pleased with the results.

Normally Aspirated - and lovin' it!

Ahh ok. I might have got my wires crossed, may have meant any S3 (i.e. not necessarily turbo) with the slightly tighter leather like this one (I think looks fairly original?)

Also I wouldn't completely rule out the ruched look for the right car.

My, what big frog-eyes you have. Such great cars, the Sprite.

I have to say, Esprit S1 to drive are a tad underwhelming. S3 are brilliant, a well engineered car. S1 will soon soar further in value though, it's an icon.

You should try an Evora. They are utterly brilliant. As I am sure Emira will be/is.

Welcome Martin.  You've come to the right place for Esprit expertise.  And we're already both in the Emira watch party - was good to meet you at Festival of Speed.  Hopefully some more specific news on delivery dates is coming in the next 2 weeks.

Welcome! I don't think any Esprit is a bad idea right now. Great car and a great investment! They are only going one way!

Congratulations on your purchase.

This is the car I always wanted (other than an Esprit.)

A lot of owners have two Lotus, so you can still get an Esprit - a cloth interior, like mine, has no leather to ruche up.

That looks lovely, congratulations!  Hope to see you at an event with it soon.  You've still got time to sign up for the Copthorne charity event on 11 Sept...

Thanks Tom. Organising a big party on the 10th so 11th doesn't work but hopefully get to the Newlands corner meet soon.

Welcome Marvin to the Lotus forum.

Glad for you to finely get a Lotus.

My grandfather came over from Devin and finely resided in Kent, that is Kent, Washington, USA back in 1902. Kent is the home of Kent Pacific Raceways and I have seen many great races over the years there. This too is Lotus land.

atb,

Richard

I expect I am on the verge of needing to move to the Exige model thread but as I am wanting to still be in the honeymoon period, posting here.

The car is fantastic and the first couple of hundred miles a joy. However on last but one journey the ESP light came on. Fine I thought, minor gremlin. Happily it reset with ignition. But yesterday the yellow engine light came on (not flashing) sadly this has not reset with ignition cycling.

Planning to have a go at cleaning MAF sensor contacts but a little nervous of going into engine bay (more used to A series tuned Minis!) I may get an OBD reader to bring myself into the 21st century.

I’ve searched and read it could be MAF or O2 sensor then happened upon the ‘solved by full engine harness replacement’ thread. Hoping that is a rare one.

if anyone has any advice that would be great, these are questions turning over in my mind:

1. Which OBD reader to buy

2. Where to book it in if I can’t resolve (I’m in Maidstone so Maidstone Sports Cars is v local, I have no experience with them but seen the various threads - feel free to DM me if you have recent experience good or otherwise)

3. How long will it be before I can I drive this amazing thing again..

Update: I cleaned MAF sensor and throttle body connector. Light still on. Then called RAC out who diagnosed MAF sensor error - but once he reset the error, the light is no more! So cleaning it was hopefully all that was needed. Went out for a blast to confirm and all good. Very happy with my afternoon's work.

Make sure you buy a good MAF sensor cleaner. On the Evora it is recommended to cable tie the connectors onto the MAF sensor. I don't know if it is possible on your 350 Sport but worth a try? Only costs <5p
