With a heavy heart I have decided the time has come to sell my Burnt Orange NA Launch Edition Evora (2+2). This is an incredibly rare colour. I don’t know exact numbers but from what I can gather there were less than 10 launch editions this colour. The Particular car was one of the first two cars sold in the UK and was featured in press articles of it being collected from Hethel. You can tell it is an early  car as it has hand written notes from one engineer to another on the inside of the front bumper so it is real piece of usable lotus history.

I looked at a lot of cars before buying this one and even though it slighter higher miles it has a huge history of work done and has always been looking after by lotus main dealers or a lotus specialist. It has the all-important clutch replacement done as well as new dampers and brakes all around all within the last 5k miles. The S1 NA Evora’s really are very special cars with the softer dampers and smaller wheels making an incredibly subtle ride combined with sublime handling (less weight high up than the Evora S) and practicality of the 2+2 version. The one criticism of the original car with the power output and exhaust noise. I have added a BOE cold air intake and remap to the original sports exhaust and it really does make a massive difference, power is up approximately 25bhp but the mid range torque/ response is what you really notice. It genuinely does feel like a different car from stock and sounds amazing now also (a howl at the top end but quiet when cruising)

It’s a Launch edition 2+2 so has the essential 4 seats (Charcoal Grey Leather Recaros) and all the desired packs (Tech, Premium and Sports)

The car has the rare “long box” which was only available on early cars. This has the same ratios 1-2^nd as the later CR cars but longer final gears including a very long 6^th gears which means it will cruise at under 2k revs at motorways speeds. Not only does this make it a quite relaxed cruiser it also means it will do 35-40mpg on a run (saving fuel of the fun bits of road!)

It has had a huge amount of work done my myself and the previous owner (over 8k in total) with the Clutch done at 72200miles (June 2019), new A/C compressor (June 2019) and A/C Condenser (March 2018), 4 x new OEM Bilsteins with New Eibach Springs (Nov 2019) and new OEM brake pads all round (Nov 2019) In 2021 it had a full new set of callipers, disks and pads, new handbrake cables, rear hubs bearings and sump pan. Upgraded double DIN head unit (not amazing my todays standards but does the job!) reverse camera, satnav, CD, Radio Aux in.

I have installed a set of Schroth clip in harnesses for fast road and the occasion track day. Since installing them I now use them on every drive as they really do connect you to the car and make the experience alto more fun. The 3 point harnesses still operate in the normal way. The harnesses are easily removable if you new owner does not want them installed in the car. I had the headlights refurbished, opened up and resealed so no water ingress and also added upgraded Osram night breaker Xenon bulbs so night driving is now a pleasure.

Bad points

The car is in very good condition in general with the pearl coat paint looking amazing in the sun (changes colours as you walk around it) It has a few age related marks and the front bumper would benefit from a respray due to stone chips (I have never bothered as it will just happen again) There is some curbing marks on one wheel but all the rest are in good condition. The car has just flown through its MOT (aircon recharged) but I have not had a chance to get it’s annual service done yet. I can get this done for the new owner or the cost can be taken off the price of the car. I drivers seat bolster is worn but I have ordered the correct die to refurbish this for the new owner.

I suppose all it really is people wanting to draw attention that there car is up for sale and get some feedback? I haven't linked to my ad but i would like some feedback, It's not sold yet although i have had some low offers which i have rejected. Maybe i missed the window with us going into winter but i feel it is a fair price. I have been offered to put it up on two auction sites but i am a bit scared of only just making reserve! wonder if anybody has experience of auctions sites such as these (collecting cars and Silverstone auctions)

I've sold via Collecting Cars before and a close friend of mine owns Shooting Brake. Happy to share experiences. Bear in mind the buyer pays 6% (collecting cars)... which is a lot and is basically coming off the amount that ends up in your pocket even though it may not be you that pays it.

Yeah collecting cars are offering a £25k reserve which would be much lower than i want to take for the car but then again it might get a high value as being in front of a large market!?

I advertised an Evora S in Sept 2020 for £40k. Nothing for months, not one call but I sold it for £40k eventually, I refused to drop the price. It was probably worth £45k+ within 6 months as the market picked up. 

If you need quick dosh, you have to be below the market. If you can wait, be at market. Where the market is at any point is not an exact science but you can gauge it with a bit of common sense.

And if you think the market will drop and you want out, be at a price that is ahead of your guess IE. Lower than you would like.

so you got a lower price selling though collecting cars? 

I haven't advertised on PH yet as it is £30 an advert and not sure it has that much reach anymore? 

I have had a few people who looked like genuine buyers turn out to be total time wasters! but that goes with selling privately i suppose

I don't see it on Autotrader either? I think if you don't have it on either Pistonheads or Autotrader you're definitely limiting your audience.

Just on the forums probably isn't getting the car in front of all potential buyers, just the hardcore Lotus enthusiasts.

I made my reserve (just) on Collecting Cars, but I had them calling me trying to get me to lower the reserve in the last days of the auction. I wasn't ok with that unless they were going to pay me the difference! So I did get the bare minimum I wanted for the car in the end but only just. I wouldn't expect to be getting a lot more than the reserve unless you get lucky.

I do think I would have gotten a higher price if I had just listed it for sale on Autotrader and been prepared to wait a bit.

Like you I'm not sure about how relevant Pistonheads is anymore and almost certainly anyone looking on Pistonheads will have looked on Autotrader too, but I'm not sure the other way around would be true.

Lastly, I'd the because of the colour you might need to be prepared to wait for the right buyer? Don't get me wrong I LOVE burnt orange, my 410 is that colour and my previous Exige S2 was burnt orange too... but on the Evora I'm not sure it would be my first choice.... it will be for many, and to the right person they will definitely pay a premium for it too, but you might have to wait a bit for that right person to turn up.

Seems pretty fairly priced to me.  If you're in no rush to sell, keep the price where it's at and wait, but I would put it on AT or PH to get it more out there.  I'm a little tempted myself but in the current climate I can't justify spending out on another car at all, besides, I would need to sell my Elise to do that, and I think I'd struggle to sell that at the moment as well.

What I would do with your ad is update it with some interior pictures.  Absolutely great car though - keep enjoying it while you have it 🙂

You need it on at least Autotrader. Interior shots are also a must. Take a shot of the airbag cover to show condition as that's a regular question.

You will probably have to wait a little as with these cars you are waiting for the 'right' buyer. It's a niche car, a lot won't know they exist and then within that, there are a chunk that will be scared of the badge reputation. You then need to find someone who is OK with orange (I think it looks great, it was high on my wish list) and one that is OK with a car above circa 40k miles, again, I don't see why but people seem to worry about that. The right person will be out there it's a lovely car and if I was looking I would buy it.

I used Autotrader to sell my Defender a few weeks ago. paid extra for the 'unlimited' time advert (eg as long as it takes to sell) which i thought would be worth it with a slightly 'specialist car'.

I had a few very low ball offers via emails without seeing that car, all of which I politely declined and eventually the first person to view it in person, bought it.

I took a couple of months and I did lower the price a little and I ended up getting what I considered my 'lowest limit'

my neighbour used motorway to sell his ex company (one driver)  Audi, got a bit more than he expected. Was a pain taking all the pics exactly as they wanted, eg the pics of the tread/rims. The reserve price is known to all the traders who bid on the car.

Paul - I suggest that you put out feelers with Craig Moncrieff. He won't actually buy the car from you but he may know someone who is looking and will broker the deal. That is how I got mine.

What's in it for Craig? Well, he takes a small fee from both buyer and seller and also obtains a new, or existing, owner who will go to him for regular servicing, MOT's, fault diagnosis etc..And Craig obviously knows your car very well so......

A win win for both parties.

I'd remove the racing seats belts for sale.

The orange car was the second delivered to a customer. It was handed over at the factory after the first customer hand over on 1st September 2009 as I recall. Original registration was E6ACL. Nothing mentioned about that as far as I can see on the write up on the auction website.
