geoft
Hi. Does anyone know how high I would have to lift the bodyshell up to roll out the chassis on my Esprit please? The reason is I have limited headroom in my garage. Thank you in advance.
910Esprit
I did it on an S2 in a lock-up single garage without any problems. If I recall, there were about 6 'lifters' and we put an Acrow prop under each wheel arch to allow the chassis to be rolled out. Presumably if you measure the height of the top of the engine to the floor. And measure the bottom of the sill to the top of the car roof. These 2 figures added together would provide the scientific answer! Edited November 14, 2022 by 910Esprit
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted November 14, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 14, 2022 Not as high as you would think. As @910Esprit says above - you just need to top of the engine to clear the bottom of the rear bumper. Quote Only here once
geoft
Thank you, what I did not mention is that the engine is out now before body lift and when putting the body back the engine will be in place. I am making trestles and want to get the correct height without hitting my garage ceiling with the roof.

Gold FFM Escape Posted November 15, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 15, 2022 The Esprit is a very low car, so if can comfortably stand under the trestles you'll have enough room to lift the body over the engine as well. Unless you're Thyrion Lannister, then you need the trestles higher than you can reach. 😄 Quote I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them. mike_sekinger
This is an example of the clearance required for the V8, but it would not be hugely different for the 4-cylinder Quote 1996 Esprit V8, 1998 Esprit V8 GT, 1999 Esprit S350 #002 (Esprit GT1 replica project), 1996 Esprit V8 GT1 (chassis 114-001), 1992 Lotus Omega (927E), 1999 Esprit V8SE, 1999 Esprit S350 #032, 1995 Esprit S4s, 1999 Esprit V8 GT (ex-5th Gear project), 1999 Esprit V8SE ('02 rear) 1999 S350 #002 Esprit GT1 replica
TAR
This was how high I needed the body so I could wheel out the chassis (no engine fitted) 1 Quote It's getting there......
