Pretty much all of the FIFA awarding committee have been indicted now for their clear corruption over these decisions.
There has been no shortage of people criticising ever since the decision was made. It’s more vocal now since it’s even more relevant now it’s happening.

Only here once

Watched England and Wales. Have an Accumulator and 3 out of 5 right so far! Listening to Argentina who are winning so thats 4 out of 5. Just Denmark to go and I could be in for a nice £530 for a £3 bet!

That went well then 🤣 - You obviously jinxed Argentina by mentioning they were winning!

I have Argentina in our family sweep-stake, so looking forward to seeing them demolish Saudi Arabia.

I also have Argentina in the sweep stake.
That didn’t go according to plan then…..

Shocking though Argentina’s defeat was, I still think they will progress after the bore draw between Mexico and Poland. Also from a personal point of view, I still have a few other big hitters in the family sweep stake. Because there are 4 of us, we each drew one team from each group. That makes every group game a bit more interesting to watch and only the overall winner gets the loot. My eight teams are: Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Netherlands, USA, South Korea, Australia and Canada.

Argentina through as expected. Poland were woeful and didn’t really deserve to qualify. France will Polish them off… Doing OK on the family sweep stake so far, 5 through already with half of the groups still to finish. Only Canada definitely out so far from my bunch.

I had Belgium. Possibly the oldest and most tired looking team in the competition!

Just spotted this on BBC Sport website. They had better check their spelling of the German coach’s surname, although the German public might agree with the Beeb. 😆

And yes Fick does mean what you think it does in German.

"Schadenfreude" must now be a Spanish word... Uff, that was tight!

German does have some funny expressions, when you look from English. Who would have thought that every time you leave a town they would wish you "Gute fahrt".

Anyone know the German word for “Schadenfreude”? Because that’s what I’m feeling this morning. 🤣 😉

There is an English equivalent for schadenfreude.

It's epicaricacy. I bet not many knew that? And even fewer how to pronounce it 🤣

It means the same ie taking pleasure out of someone else's misfortune

At least England won't have to play them in the finals 😉

Why can't the VAR be like they have in rugby? It stamps out any cheating, dodgy tackles, abuse to the referee etc...It works well in cricket and tennis too. And I like the added dimension of so many extra challenges within a game, set, whatever.

Football would be a lot better for it.

Regarding the Japan winner, yes from my sofa 3000+ miles away, the first impression was the ball being out of play. Indeed the German media is peddling a photo of the moment when there is clearly green grass between ball and white line. However, this image is from the most advantageous angle from their point of view. It’s a bit like those annoying corner kicks nowadays, where the player places the ball just outside the quadrant to get an extra half inch closer to the goal. The linesman has to step forward and look down on the ball from directly above to be sure that part of the ball is actually over the line. From directly above, I am now certain that not all of the ball had crossed the line from other angles I have seen. VAR agreed.
