I appreciate and fully agree with signing this petition, and the sentiment behind it, but what exactly is it petitioning for?

The trouble is @ramjet - Adam’s actions were not ideal. But very much excusable and expected in the scenario.

something had badly gone wrong with the police, CPS and the judiciary in this instance - and yes the are ALL implicated in this wrong doing. Since that’s the line of prosecution.

This could well be a turning point case just like the farmer whom shot intruders.

Under the eyes of the law its not a wrongful conviction. It is actually a miscarriage of justice.  Firstly the Police were just doing their job. It's not the Police Officers job to sentence or hand down justice, its their job to present the facts to the Legal system. "Is this Burglary a crime? yes, put it to the CPS", "Is this running off the road and related injuries a crime? Yes, refer to the CPS". Where Adam and the whole system was let down is in the prosecution and more importantly the sentence. This was 100% the responsibility of the CPS, judicial system and the Judge.It could easily have been decided it "Wasn't in the public interest" to Pursue Adam, but as I said above, that isn't the Police's job or case to do. All they do is present the facts to the CPS.

This is not just a "Public" thing. The Police are also subject to such issues.

Imagine you are a Police Officer and you attend a call where someone has been caught red handed stealing from a shop. Now, you turn up and arrest said thief who even admits said crime. You take them to custody and whilst presenting them to the Custody Sergeant they decide to get a bit "upset" at having their freedom taken away. Their cuffs have been removed as per procedure, you have stood back as per procedure and followed everything 100% correctly. However, when you are asked to search them for the 3rd time before they go into the cell they decide to take umbrage. As they remove their shoes they throw them at you and, as anyone would, you throw your hands up to protect your face. Said shoes hit you one on your hand the other your left eye. Said person follows the shoes up with a pretty professional impression of a Tyson Fury knockout punch which hits you full in the face splatting your nose and making you bite your lip. You have had enough and shoulder barge him into the wall behind him where his breath whooshes from his mouth. Its followed up by the Sergeant vaulting the Desk and your crew partner finally jumping in and between the 3 of you you successfully restrain him and he gets escorted to the cell with an addition of "You are further arrested for Assault Police, you do not have to........... etc etc".

35 Camera's, full audio, procedures followed, no doubt in anyone's mind as to the crime and admittance of guilt "I just lost it".

Magistrate gives a £75 fine and he is released with a slapped wrist with a "it's a normal part of your job" to said Police Office. from the Magistrate.

The Legal system in this country is an Arse and I would love to see what would have happened to the perpetrator if it was the Magistrate at the end of that haymaker! Justice is not for the victims whether they be Police or Public. It's for the suspects.

Oh @Kimbers in my recent and ongoing experience with the police - they really do pick and choose what they consider to pass forwards to the CPS - it’s a full on pisstake. I’ve absolutely irrefutable evidence of criminality by some - fully documented - police - they do ummmm…… anyway back on topic

I think I'm with @Kimbers re miscarriage of justice vs wrongful conviction. The police don't have the option to decide to not pursue something just because they don't like that law, they can fail to pursue because it's not realistic to convict or not realistic to identify the culprit etc. The govt write the laws but it's judges that decide what that law actually means, and there are lots of instances of the planned law not turning into that in reality. 

Had Adam not been subject to a court case then the family of the other parties could have generated enough rubbish about it and forced the police & CPS to take it forward at a later date, so the more certain route would have been for the judge to throw the case out. That would all but make it impossible for Adam to face that case again.

@Barrykearley Mate, that's like saying a referee is free to overlook a nasty tackle where a player get seriously injured.

Or I am free to sell you a car that is dangerous as its my choice to not follow company procedure and get it fixed.

I'm not gonna argue but it is purely the Polices job to present evidence to the CPS. If they don't and a crime has been committed then they will lose their job, pure and simple. Likewise they need to fully investigate and present said evidence. They can't pick and choose which pieces of evidence they present. It all goes in. Likewise if they arrest someone and it's not a crime they get in trouble. It's their job mate and they don't have a choice in the matter. You can't pick and choose who you choose justice for and who you don't!

@Kimbers I’m afraid I have absolutely no confidence in the police. They are indeed choosing to take easy options in my experience. They simply can be feckin arsed with it - maybe it’s resources I’ve no idea. I’m probably better off changing my name, sexuality and religion presently.

Talk to any bloke dealing with DV - you’ll find the same - I lead a local group of chaps going through it - I absolutely know you know what I mean.

I see that Anne Sacoolas got sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for a year for causing death by careless driving - although she did plead guilty.

I feel sorry for the police - defunded to the point they can barely afford the manpower to nick anyone, and when they do, the judicial system does little to support them.

Adam did wrong, absolutely.  But the situation shouldn't have arisen in the first place.  Google these guys, look for them on Twitter, TokTok and Facebook.  They're brazen criminals and they advertise it.

Funding is not the major issue. My step son is a copper and from what I understand the majority of their time is spent on “welfare checks” or dealing with the same low life’s day in day out. Until the courts put these habitual criminals away for a long time we will see little improvement.

The police force for which he works has had plenty enough finance to build a swanky new headquarters.
