Super Unleaded

I stick normal (95 RON) unleaded in the car at the moment.

Is there any benefit to spending the extra money on Super (97 RON).

Which should I be using (I hope 95 won't cause any engine damage...)

I've got an S3 HC, which has got hardened valve seats/liners (can't remember which bit, but it's harder somewhere!).

Cheers

Rich

i use the lowest octane fuel they sell. and without noticable power compromise. the more volatile fuels do burn cleaner, but i'm not paying the extra few cents. the world can lump it.

I use the highest octane, usually 92-93. However, this is based on the (R+M)/2 formula. Anyone know the (MON) of the 93 Esprit so that I can calculate what the (RON) is before I make any "cheap" comments toward anyone else -- or myself? :)

we don't calculate octane numbers the same way. and our billion is not equal to your billion. although neither is more correct, you lot are the ones pronouncing aluminum incorrectly.

We don't drive on the wrong side of the road.

As for an explanation of the different methods of fuel definitions go to

We're not the ones pronouncing it wrong, you're the ones spelling it wrong.

well i'd think saving a syllable was more efficient use of time. i would take the trouble to say aluminium if aluminum had a different meaning. i'm using the vague billions as part of an evil plan to hoard all the orange smarties. what's left except to say i drive on the right side.

not sure if they do it in your country, but around here, the fuel can legally come mixed with over 10% detergent(dish soap), purportedly to clean your engine. ironically, the higher grade fuels contain more, because they can sneak more in without noticable performance loss. in essence, you get less miles per gallon.

Saw this article in another forum once on fuel, if true bit of an eye opener. Make of it what you will! :)

Hmmm. Interesting. I always used to use Tesco to fill things up (before the Esprit). Never really had any problems. Now I use Esso 'cause it's the nearest station...

I had always use dOptimax and that had generally been the recieved widom among a large swathe of teh UK Epsrit community.

It was already well known that it 'goes off' and needs to be bought from a busy garage with a high turnover and then used quickly (that never seemed to be a problem :) )

This article *IF* reliable may make me reconsider...

I wonder what our chemistry professor has to say on the matter?!

"When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked him to forgive me."

Now that I own the Addiction for Life DVD, I know who you're talking about!

Would be interested to hear his opinion... (any chance of the recipe from the DVD as well?? :P:P )

Dermot even made the national press :P

As for that recipe - You don't seriously think we haven't been trying to get hold of that for years?! :P

I think the words over, dead and body may have featured?

It's a dead cert that somebody will hand it over? Or have I missed the point :P

Who will hand what over?

Dermot hasn't told ANYONE :)

Of course anyone with a PHd in Chemistry could easily make their own additive...
