madmezza
I stick normal (95 RON) unleaded in the car at the moment. Is there any benefit to spending the extra money on Super (97 RON). Which should I be using (I hope 95 won't cause any engine damage...) I've got an S3 HC, which has got hardened valve seats/liners (can't remember which bit, but it's harder somewhere!). dodgy
i put 95 ron in once. never again. noticable loss of power, then again, mine is not a hc. Paul C
I have all the Shell Optimax Garages downloaded onto my Satnav and have not filled with anything else for at least a couple of years. Wouldn't point a 95 pump anywhere near it!
Guest teigan
i use the lowest octane fuel they sell. and without noticable power compromise. the more volatile fuels do burn cleaner, but i'm not paying the extra few cents. the world can lump it. Cliff
I use the highest octane, usually 92-93. However, this is based on the (R+M)/2 formula. Anyone know the (MON) of the 93 Esprit so that I can calculate what the (RON) is before I make any "cheap" comments toward anyone else -- or myself? Paul C
From Waynes 94 post, and your 93/92, Do i gather that US pumps have lower octane gas than ours? Do you have a higher octane option?
Guest teigan
we don't calculate octane numbers the same way. and our billion is not equal to your billion. although neither is more correct, you lot are the ones pronouncing aluminum incorrectly. Cliff
Teigan, if you are part of "our" billions, I assume you meant $'s, what are you saving them for by buying the cheapest petro? Maybe ... a new Lotus
WayneB
Regular over here is 87 octane. I run my Buick on that stuff (knock sensor etc) You wouldnt want to run an Esprit on it (for very long)
lrg_machine
you lot are the ones pronouncing aluminum incorrectly. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We're not the ones pronouncing it wrong, you're the ones spelling it wrong. Guest teigan
well i'd think saving a syllable was more efficient use of time. i would take the trouble to say aluminium if aluminum had a different meaning. i'm using the vague billions as part of an evil plan to hoard all the orange smarties. what's left except to say i drive on the right side. Jussi
I'm using 98E for Esprit, just wondering why you blame fuel to be so expensive I just paid 1,366Euros for a litre of 98E Isn't that cheap or what Quote Check my blog and leave comments/suggestions Jussi's photography blogSee you in G+ Jussi Alanko in Google+
Hairyarse
Saw this article in another forum once on fuel, if true bit of an eye opener. Make of it what you will! Guest teigan
not sure if they do it in your country, but around here, the fuel can legally come mixed with over 10% detergent(dish soap), purportedly to clean your engine. ironically, the higher grade fuels contain more, because they can sneak more in without noticable performance loss. in essence, you get less miles per gallon. Make of it what you will! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmm. Interesting. I always used to use Tesco to fill things up (before the Esprit). Never really had any problems. Evil_Dr_Fish
I had always use dOptimax and that had generally been the recieved widom among a large swathe of teh UK Epsrit community. It was already well known that it 'goes off' and needs to be bought from a busy garage with a high turnover and then used quickly (that never seemed to be a problem ) This article *IF* reliable may make me reconsider...
