talon
Just caught the blurb on the F1 site. http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2007/9/6767.html Even as a Ferrari fan, I'm still not sure how I feel about this. Wondering if the punishement may be too severe... Edited September 13, 2007 by talon
th4neuk
The best championship in the last few years and the manage to screw it up. Unbelievable. It seems to have been taken way to far. Hopefully the drivers championship will remain interesting?? Bernie needs to get a grip or F1 will become a worldwide laughing stock (like after the American race the other year). It's very sad for the whole sport though. just my 2p. Gold FFM mayevora Posted September 13, 2007 Gold FFM Report Share Posted September 13, 2007 Might be a daft question but where exactly is the proposed $100Million going? What will happen with these monies if/when paid? Does it go to the FIA or who? Is this a 'fine' or is this compensation and some goes to Ferrari ? Can't really get my head round that many Zero's - ($100000000) Does this affect the fantasy league we have???? rocket63
What a shambles formula one continues to be. It would appear that its own governing body, verges on bringing the so called "Sport" they administer into disrepute. What a joke. So. they judged that the McLaren obviously utilises the intectual property of another constructor. However. Fine them and they can continue to use the car because, to all intents and purposes they have now "purchased" the right? Load of B**l*cks. M3S2k
Bernie better watch it. One day he's gonna wake up and all the teams, with the exception of Ferrari, will be gone.
Kimbers
Once again i don't understand why you are all upset. Mclaren were found cheating and despite the fact I dislike Ferrari with a passion, I thought the whole "Don't take away our only decent British team" attitude rather strange. They cheated, they got caught, they got punished. Simple really. Happens in many other sports as well, trainers in horse racing getting banned for doping etc. Yes, it used to go on and there were consequences in the past but they were always kept under wraps. But this was considered a matter of industrial espionage. There may be other reasons as well, like the fact that Ferrari would persue it through the Italian Police if they didn't get a result here. That would really cause some trouble. The only thing I don't understand is how they can find them guilty of it and NOT punish the drivers, as they must obviously have benefitted from the cheating, having prior knowledge of the Ferrari and some copied parts! Unless of course, you are right and it's all a big "keep Ferrari appeased" thing. Strange! Quote Possibly save your life. Advantage
As far as Bernie, Max and the FIA are concerned, it's only Ferrari that make F1 worth watching...which is why they get a oversized portion of the FIA's money pot. Essentially, the other teams are paying for the Italian team to be there.
redshift
Unfortunately I'm not surprised by all this. Ever since the proposed break-away GP manufacturers series, the FIA have been looking for any excuse to get at McLaren. What seems wrong is: - McLaren were required to prove they were not guilty rather than their innocence. - If the team is banned because the FIA considers the cars have illegal IP content then why are the drivers not penalised who used those cars? - Toyota also have Ferrari IPR obtained illegally, several of their employees were found guilty in the civil courts for this. However the FIA saw no need to sanction Toyota for the same offence? - Ferrari were using an illegal car for the earlier races this season again the FIA sees no need to apply any sanctions? And this is just the parts we know about. Something smells very bad. As a MotoGP fan I can take a fairly disinterested view but it is probably safe to consider that the sporting ethos of F1 has effectively died and been buried this year. M Blur
Very sad how F1 has gone, unfair also to level at Bernie - he's there to bring in the money and doesn't control the FIA tho does sit on the F1 discplinary board. Yes money has corrupted the sport, not many that haven't been. I think FIA wanted to penalise the manufacturer not the drivers which would be a PR nightmare for the sport.. especially with Lewis' progress and a royal race to the c'ship. Also there was no concrete proof that anything was used but given McLaren's sudden rise in reliability and leading Ferrari then sth was always going to be done, there's the distinction with Toyota. Worth remembering that these incidents are usually caused by zealous individuals as they move between teams; not board conspiracies. Be interesting to think back to Adrian N's suprising move to RB 2 seasons ago.. Quote It's alive.. alive!!!..
Mark Blanchard
Cheating in F1 has been going on for years. Toyota did something similar not long ago and the FIA ignored it. And all the teams snoop on each other. I think the FIA have acted inconsistantly; initially the punishment wasn't enough and now it's to much. Just hope McLaren get some success with an appeal. WayneB
Doesnt anyone remember when Jackie Olivers then new Arrows team was sued by Don Nichols and Shadow over the Arrows FA1 f1 car in 1978? Shadow designer Tony Southgate joined Arrows in 1978 and basically made the new Arrows FA1 a copy of the Shadow DN-9. There was a big hoopla /courtcase (which Nichols won), the result being all the FA1 chassis and parts had to be forfitted to Shadow. Arrows designed a new car, and managed to last quite a while after that (as McLaren will.) Edited September 14, 2007 by WayneB

lince
I think it was to hard and bad for the F1 show, they should have done the fine take away some points in both championships to make ferrari a couple of points ahead of Mclaren and the take advantage of the situation to make the championship closer and more followable. Now there is a bad taste in this year championship whatever the resulte is. Plus I can

M Blur
Jst a naff way to see Ferrari win the constructors title... it's like - yep you weren't so fast this year and picked the wrong drivers but here, have this instead.. If Kimi and Massa stop tripping themselves up they could close quite a bit on Lewis and Alonso but really the boys have prb done enough to stay ahead - got to say Alonso looks fired up and driving well again after a dodgey first half of the season.. Lewis will have a tough time defending those remaining points but at least he stil has the lead, who'd have gussed that at the start of the season or even 3 races in.. difference now he has to go from being consistent and fast to being the fastest from here to the end of the season to take the title.. a lot of pressure on the young lad. matk
Makes you wonder how they became aware of the emails or even if Ron knew that the info was being discussed by the drivers. Alonso getting his revenge on the team perhaps by snitching? Why were only Alonso and De Rosa involved and not Hamilton. More evidence that Alonso has been trying to get an advantage over Hamilton in any way he could for a while? Do you think Alonso may be off to Ferrari?
