DAVES_GT3 0
while at the oxford meeting i managed to pick up a mad vibrating noise. sounds like loose baffels in the exhaust but it only does it when driving around 3000rpm. if i rev it stationary i cant hear it. it has got a larini twin exit ehaust system on. unsure if that would have baffels in it? mentioned it to dermot in oxford and suggested the heat sheild attached to the back of the engine bay by the turbo may be the culprit. it doesnt seem loose. just wondered if anyonme had had any similar thing happen? thanks dave
s4simon 153
I had a horrible rattle / vibrating noise at 3000, but it was the EBPV - which you don't have on the GT3. I would say that it'd have to be something connected to the Exhaust system. Quote Simon (94 S4) My Esprit will be for sale in late 2017

Then again, the engine and exhaust noise usually drowns it out after a while. I can't hear it, but I know it's still there... 98GT3 0
Could it be the wastegate? you could check and see if you can feel the arm rattling with the engine cover off and someone holding a steady 3000rpm for you. 98GT3
Evil_Dr_Fish 1
Has anyone mentioned 'disintegrating catalyst' yet? lotus4s 24
Could be loose heat shields, exhaust hanger mounts, exhaust tips and or as already mentioned the EBPV to name a few... Also when looking at the heat shields (usually the ones around the left motor mount) look for two that may not necessarily be loose but vibrating together or against the manifold at certain RPM's. Thought it was mine at first but could only hear it when i got close to you. Sorry i forgot about this, your description of the noise is spot on BTW. PS, I only noticed it, as it was totally different noise to my own rattles!
The_Del 0
PS, I only noticed it, as it was totally different noise to my own rattles! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it is a sad life of the Esprit owner when we now compare rattles or recognise our cars by the particular rattle. Mine is no exception with many rattles, knocks, the occasional grind but no bangs lately... not sure if thats a good sign...
DAVES_GT3 0
Thanks for the input guys! Guest teigan
i had an exhaust rattle that suddenly went away mysteriously. i was actually worried for a few weeks. the noise is back now and it's chitty chitty bang bang all over again.
DAVES_GT3 0
Phew!! All done. one of the exhaust brackets had parted from a welded joint and therefore vibrating against it. Just shows there can be small problems and easy fix's on the esprit as well as big ones! cheers everyone dave
