Check out LEW for details of the V8 engine in NA, turbocharged and intercooled configurations.

http://www.lotusespritworld.com/ETechnical...ngine_Spec.html

The Garrett range of standard turbos typically get bigger as the number increases. e.g. T25 are pretty small turbos, whereas T4s are significantly bigger. T6s are absolutely huge!....

This is not always the case, as hybrids tend to mix housings from across the ranges, in order to maximum performance for a given application. An example is the turbo used on the Sport300, which was a T3/T4 hybrid.

Another gereral rule is that the larger the turbo, the more enertia required to spool the turbo and hence the bigger the lag. The challenge is to match the components to get the best mixture of efficiency, flow, reliabilitiy and minimal lag.

why doesnt lotus use the t3/4 turbo in the Esprit v8.. and why use a t25?

Because there are two of them with two T3/T4's the higher horsepower generated would be pushing the limits of several components of the engine and tranny so it was probably a good compromise for performance and reliability.....at least that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

There have also been recent reports of dyno runs on stock V8's pushing well over 300 hp (about 340 IIRC) on some of the last generation cars for whatever reason.

Cheers,

Jim

WHEEL HP people WHEEL HP. Crank HP doesn't mean crap in the car world, its how much power gets to the ground (or dyno) that matters.  Esprit make 290-300 WHEEL HP, and 250-260 WHEEL TQ.

If the thread was about real world road performance, then I would agree.... but the topic was engine power output and the choice of turbos. That has everything to do with crank power

... are you referring to "high flow" turbos or what? b/c i know there are options to increase the flow of your existng turbos.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

 read back through the thread man....

The original question was what is the NA power of the V8...... then it moved onto why T25s and not T3s or T4s etc....

We could hi-jack the thread completely and talk about the V8 turbos in more detail and what is possible to improve performance?
