Starting problems

Hello people.

My s2 has recently suffered a mysterious water loss and subsequent over heat. Compression test was ok, have made electrical checks from battery to plugs, ok.

IT STILL WONT FIRE!!? (Yes there is fuel in it!)

Any ideas?

check fuel pressure and vacuum pressure. was the car worked on after the overheat? you may need a water pump.

Thanks for your advice. Head gaskets ok, water didnt go in the engine thats for sure! Its an electrical problem. Power to the distributor is there but no spark at the plugs, could it be the condensor burnt out? Or with the dissy itself?

Replace the coil. Its cheap fix.

If you have a Lumination, they pack in sometimes in the engine bay heat. After the coil for $30 US, go for a new Pertronic Ignition module for $70 US.

I had similar on my s3 turbo with power but no spark

i suggest you get the manual, a good multimeeter and spend a morning running through the checks for the ignition system this soon pointed me to where the problem was.

Also check all your earths as this can also prevent a spark.

Sorted! It was the condensor, was not getting a healthy blue spark accross the points.

absence of capacitance wouldn't explain the water loss though. anyway, glad it wasn't serious.
