82 Turbo, Carburettor decision

Guys

Been chattin to Evil Dr Fish about this one but decided to open it up to the forum for input.

I am at the point after many months of engine rebuilding..etc.etc..of needing to fit the carbs back on. I could fit my original old DHLA 40's but I do happen to have a brand new pair of 45's (as per HC) in my shed.

What are the implications of fitting these instead?

Im not looking for any performance increase, but worried that I will have a performance decrease, maybe low down?

Would love to put em on because they do look oh so shiny, but its got to work!

Any ideas? I am pretty sure the US spec Turbo's had 45's as standard (to compensate for the cat no doubt).

Richard C.

My car has the 45s (U.S. federal car)

I have no air pump or Catalist(removed)

I run 12 degrees of ignition advance.(standard 0)

Run standard boost(at present)

It goes like stink(sh*t off a shovel) :)

Put the 45s on(you wont regret it) :)

Ah but Robin I'm sure you would much rather have the 47's :)

These replies are looking good. :)

What is the octane rating of the fuel you US guys use?

Do you get 98 over there, and would this affect the amount of advance I need?

Im using Sunoco Ultra 94 :)

As we go by a different rating scale here , I have no idea of the conversion table. :)

Also the U.S. spec stainless muffler with single large outlet is less restrictive than your steel dual outlet job :)

Yep.. an american octane is the same as an american Gallon... or tyre, grey, neighbour or colour

WRONG :)

...and Teigan - don't even get me started on Aluminium :)

Guest teigan

i'd let the 40s live out their useful life. but then i prefer efficiency. my car has the 45s and i run my timing slightly behind, so i can use 87 pump octane.

Jussi

As you are running 98 octane on 45's, is the ignition set up as the book states, or have you needed to advance it in a similar fashion to Wayne?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ignition set up is as the book states. Car works fine but now I have weird powerless area between 2500-3000rpm.. We couldn't figured it out yet what's causing it :P

About 12 degrees of ignition advance, have you noticed any benefits from it after you removed emission stuff??? Should we try it :P
