LEfty, the worlds smallest but most travelled Esprit!

Recommended Posts

Lefty enters the town center BILD0267.JPG on: 52.3914/13.0640

the strange thing in this town is -it is full of mixups who vary from *ancient history*, *Prussian military* , *socialism* and up to modern *21th century architecture*

some 'old' architecture BILD0268.JPG

rumors say this bloke is well known in the US !? BILD0270.JPG on: 52.3954/13.0574

LEFty gets the cultural informations.. . BILD0269.JPG

BILD0272.JPG that shows perfectly what i mean, socialism concrete together with what was left from the 'former Prussian glory' of this town (as some of you may have learned in school about: not all that was related with POTSDAM was that good in the end . Especially not from '33-'45 :sofa: )

and that's the way some associations try to recreate old stuff on the right places. BILD0273.JPG You can buy stone by stone an whole building (the so called *Garnisonkirche* in that case) -an if it is your wish the bricks get your name or sign on it... .

It's the same way of doing such things as it was done with the *Frauenkirche* in Dresden.

the style of self-conception in a Socialist People's RepublicBILD0274.JPG on: 52.3956/13.0529

say hello to *AEon Flux* -OK, just a joke ! Bud the few of you who know something about cinema (and of course the cinema history and industry who is still present in this town) -or at least the opener of this movie- know what i mean... :PBILD0277.JPG Oh, yes -some bloody tourist still believe there was an white haired bloke around who had a flute two dogs and does a lot in German & Europe history. ...havent seen him today :)

[sports-]cars are not allowed in the park : BILD0276.JPG ...hmm, me thinks this is a exceptional case today

@ John Heath: haven't i told you in the past 'there is a lot of water out there' !? BILD0275.JPG this theme will come in view often now ...water ,lots of water -even in the *Park Sanssouci* time for a bath ? BILD0278.JPG on: 52.3984/13.0525

there are much more sights and cultural-places in this park, and even in the whole town. That's why you can study *architecture* *cultural sciences* and such stuff over here in the local university... . You can see it in peoples eyes -all attractive young girls are so intellectual and have books in front of the nose ---whoohooohh, so boring :lol:BILD0279.JPGBILD0280.JPG

after 13 years delay , caused by the employment time -I've got my *university entrance diploma* from there 52.4012/13.0576BILD0281.JPG -not bad for an simple truck-mechanic who was grown up in a socialism suburban concrete township of POTSDAM

more water... BILD0282.JPGon: 52.4133/13.0884

this place is well known and often used as theme for spy & action movies in the cold-war time... . BILD0284.JPG The legendary *Glienicker Br

LEFcar?

Time to revive this thread ! ! !     In the spring of 2011, Patty and I were fortunate to have LEFty. . .      These are the highlights of the pictures we took one cold and sunny day:

after the engine work there was some time left -so I've started an short run up to a friend. Some of you may know him from last years *dunston hall* evening.. . Daniel [pumkin999] was that guy who impressed MJK as we told him he really is an Elise-driver :)

LEFty has got a new friend today:

It was late, so my cheap 'digital'-pictures got out in LOMO-mode (unfocused fast shots) :P

*checkpoint-bravo* ahead ! BILD0298.JPG

passing the old AVUS race-track tribunes BILD0299.JPG

LEFty told me that he wants to see this: BILD0300.JPG in German language you can name [in familiar tongue] an Elise as *Else*. So i thought this joke would work for my German friends !? -an 'Else' under the 'Jold Else' [in Berlin the people have that special kind of proletarian speech.. 'Goldelse' means the statue on top of the so called *Siegess

an other day to hang around, in Berlin again.... .

I was focused to pic up tools and stuff for my engine work, so i was in town anyway. Bud there is one guy more of the Berlin Lotus crowd who is worth a stop and little :cry:BILD0310.JPG That's Burkhard Sellerie, or as we all call him 'Bo' ..his S4s was not parked in the office today -so we just have done a little 'tune-up' on his LEF account profile

Other remarkable places today, as it is 13th of August & one of the historical marks in history of the POTSDAM/BERLIN-area: *only the little differences in vegetation still speak for this places around Berlin* BILD0312.JPG , *shoot on the run* BILD0311.JPG on 52.3965/13.1405

Gunter, are you having fun? You're meant to take 10 pics, not 10,000!

Hows the paint?

Bibs, it is up on Laura to pic up the 10 most impressive ones after LEFty is on his way to the next ..

We don't have canyons or wide open roads here  ! So i think it is the best way to show other LEF members my world around here ?

What do you expect,

as the *high res*-pictures are in work. I have done most of it with the manual [film] camera too... . Those 'digital snap-shot' posts are just the daily updates.

PS. If you as the CEO of LEF officially advice me as LEFs little bugger, to have a day for an *service* on LEFty -than i will do that !!

Kylie, as it was your project in the beginning -I don't know if you will find that *cool* !?

Bud our CEO turned up and ordered a *servicing*

...

Update for today:

..an repaint would mean i have to separate the riveted chassis from the body, just to get sure the 'Doc Bundy' signature is still intact after all. So up it goes, find some small screws to modify & fit into the body. The bend rear axle also was on the list. BILD0313.JPG

Rear suspension, straightened as good as possible BILD0314.JPG (the wheels are still to loose on the axle, bud i can't fix that without other wheels..)

If you spot closely you can see the wooden support-bracket.BILD0320.JPG It stiffens up the axle a bit more now.

I think that the flaking & cracks on the interior should be untouched. A little patina needs every Legend  (and i have not the right paint color to match that up with a stock paint code..)

*feels like a peeling*BILD0316.JPG

Chassis test fit. BILD0322.JPG It suffered from an cracking in the left-rear undertray, i have to sort out this too... and it still does not run in a strait line upon the table. BILD0323.JPG Bud it is ready for a color touch up now.

I'm on the way to my local shop. Will get an spray-can of 'ICI Autocolor' mixed already for this little car -B05 is the color of choice !

not sure about the paint, as first layers do not turn out to be 'top-dress'-quality

...bud good thing is: now every one (hopefully on his stop in Hethel  ) can do an paint-rework. As the body is screwed on !

What worries me is -the faulty undertray is from now on related with my person

Will let him/her dry in the evening -and look if it is good enough with the base coat, so the lamps & license plates can painted on + an clear coat on top !

@Bibs: ..there is no service map ! It's an 'used high-mileage RHD car' with unclear history . Not top of range in the market

think I totally screwed it up !?

The cars body is look like an SE , right...? It does have US sidelights, bud is an RHD !?

So I'm not sure how far i can go. The turn-indicators are not the right color now (for US-specification at least..) . The LEFty-banner shows him/her with an black bumper [front/rear] , and the black side-line stripe does not match SE version.

As my paint brush is not fine enough -I vote for an stop of 'detailing'

Is it OK ? BILD0324.JPGBILD0325.JPG

*glossy enough* ? :lol:BILD0326.JPG

...good night for all, see you lil'LEFty tomorrow !

woke up this morning, and was ready to go -more finishing !

*undertray closed* BILD0330.JPG

*ready for the parade*BILD0335.JPG

..guess which of them i have build, you have to find three out of the parade. Just to get sure -you can't win anything, especially nothing of those (despite i have more of them...bud i like them all!)

Question now is: Laura, what do you say -wrap him in his box and send him away ?

Or more days in the Berlin sun, and an visit of the annual *German Lotus owners summer-fun* & in the LCD headquarter [it's on 22. August] !?

That's entirely up to you Gunter.

The idea with LEFty is is to get pictures with LEFty visiting your local sights and then send him on his way so he gets round as many places as possible and with a few good snaps to share, it's just a bit of a laugh.

If you don't think you've got your few good pictures yet then take more if you have then send him on.

To be on the line with some of the other places LEFty visited before -I can make more of those 'special places' like *Britain army-cemetery* (where the Queen is annually to celebrate..) near Potsdam. Or some of the former 'W

After being a bit out of touch here of late regarding LEF... I decided to check up on our little buddy Lefty....

AWSOME!!! New paint and new photos rock! Good show. These travels really need to be assembled into a book and published. I could get Burt Levy to write a forward!

Some more British-heritage on Sunday:

*Stahnsdorf military cemetery* on: 52.3837/13.1751

BILD0344.JPGBILD0343.JPGBILD0342.JPGBILD0340.JPG

The whole Stahnsdorf cemetery area is one of the finest cemetery's in an around Berlin. As so many artist, and persons from the cultural & political history are buried here. My own family does have her graves there, bud it was not allowed to walk on the area on all times. Especially in the 'cold-war' time some sections of the cemetery where known as 'ex-territorial zones' within the DDR [GermanDemocraticRepuplic]. You can see the reason in the pictures. Based on an Agreement between the Russians, the [East]Germans and the British Government... . It is so famous that even the Queen was on here for an visit on her various Berlin 'military inspection' tours !

more from today: around the south of Berlin you can find a lot of those stuff. Old battlefields are always everywhere on the world, of course..
