5TH GEAR RATIO, ORIGINAL CITROEN SM GBX

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if the 5th gear ratio specifically, or other ratios are different between the gearbox in an SM and the Lotus models? Also, are there gear ratio differences between the Lotus gearboxes from the S1 to the Turbo? :)

Thanks in advance. Lee

The only thing I do know is that it rotates in the opposite direction when in the Lotus

Correct, the Lotus engine rotates anti-clockwise the Maserati-Citroen clockwise.

The gear ratio between S1/S2 and S3/Turbo are the same only the dia from the wheels are different.

Cheers,

Jean

Thanks for the info, but I really need to know how the 'SM' 5th gear ratio compares to the 'Esprit' boxes' 5th gear ratio.

It certainly helpful to know that all Esprit boxes, S1-Turbo, were the same ratios

Hello, all ratios for 5th gear are the same. Also the final drive is on all gearboxes 8/35.

There is however a difference in the casings and clutch slave position. From the early S1 S2 and the S3/Turbo although certain S3 were fitted with the earlier casing.

Just to echo what Troy has said - The N/A & Turbo bell housings are different but they are a matched part i.e. they have corresponding numbers printed on them and the box, so I guess its not a good idea to mix and match gearboxes/bellhousings from different boxes!

You're right, better not. But it can be shimmed out aswell.

I've done it several times and have sold several gearboxes( previous and C35) without bellhousing.
