Cliff
Anyone want to buy 93 Esprit before the storm takes it away? http://www.weatherunderground.com/tropical...g/at200512.html If this storm his at its current strength 906mb, it will be the 2nd strongest storm to hit the US since records have been kept... Evil_Dr_Fish
Batten down the hatches guys... we'll be thinking of your insurance premiums! Would they even cover this? I know insurance companies do love the "acts of god" op out! I'm an atheist so they can't pull that one on me Quote "When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. EspritMiltonKeynes
Haha... take it you watched 'The Man who Sued God' then? Billy Connolly, great film... I'm an atheist so they can't pull that one on me <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, if they can prove it's an act of God, then by default they need to prove God exists. If i told them a Yeti broke my drivers window, they would insist on photo's, right? Whichever, stay safe Cliff

However, in the past three years, insurance companies exclude hurricane damage on one's home -- unless, you buy hurricane coverage specifically. Then, I believe they have a deductible equal to 10% of the home's value. It's a thievery!
Cliff
Storm has 175 mph SUSTAINED winds, gusts in excess of 200 mph. They are predicting 15-20 feet of water in DOWNTOWN New Orleans, LA. I actually live in Houma, LA which is located about 50 miles to the west of New Orleans. Everyone here is expecting catostrophic damages to property and loss of life for those that did not evacuate. I hope I'm not one of the statistics for staying. EspritMiltonKeynes
Anyone else thinking... BL<>DY H3LL! ? Well 40 miles can make the world of difference. About 50 miles away from me is a place called Birmingham and they had a tornado there the other week and it totally wrecked a few streets. We had a bit of cloud cover and broken sunny spells. Still, I know this Katrina thing is on totally the other end of the scale... I juist hope you make it through. CNH
I doubt Cliff can reply as his power is out. Houma has avoided a direct hit as it has veered east. His Lotus has probably survived.

Cliff
My ISP is now back up so that I can reply. All good here. Price of the car just went up! Missed most of the storm, but the electricity for the entire area is out. Many will be out of power dor days and weeks. Some maybe a month or more. Some areas near New Orleans did get 15 ft of water. People on their roofs. Will post again later.

Cliff
Thanks for all the well-wishes. I have been very busy taking care of business, I own an ISP and we were the only provider that maintained our service throughout this ordeal. It's a shame that I will profit from other's misfortunes. I feel like an attorney...Yuck! The situation here is very bad. New Orleans continues to deterioate. Hopefully, the federal government can restore order with the military. It seems that we have responded faster with aid around the world than we did in our own back yard. It is so bad that a friend of mine in law enforcement, was performing search and rescue, when he was shot at! He had to return fire killing two individuals. It's mad. It's not as bad where I live, but we are the first stop for refugees; thus, it is chaotic here too. Again, thanks for my good fortune and your thoughts. Hopefully, I will get to catch up on the list and participate regularly again soon. I think I'll take the Lotus out for a "brisk walk" tomorrow... - Cliff Edited September 4, 2005 by Cliff
Simon350S
Hi Cliff just logged on, 1st time since last week, must be mad over with you, i couldn't even begin to imagine. Hope the looters/refugees dont nick your car and that you don't end up with bullet holes in it. Sounds like a good time to fit that james bond submarine kit though (may have to modify it to fit!!) and try your hand at a bit of high speed sailing!! and you can help the police with your anti looter rocket launcher!! Seriously though, hope all gets back to normal sooner rather than later, although it looks like it could take a mightly long time!!!!
