K&N air filters

Recommended Posts

I see that everyone seems to run K&N filters, yet when I contacted K&N they say that they do not make a filter for the Lotus Esprit V8?????

I ordered a set based on the ?parts cross reference list? and then K&N sent me the filters and I sent them back due to fears that they would not fit and Lotus delaer said that they may throw the check engine light ......

Anyone have any problems with these and what is the CORRECT part number and what car was it orignally made for? I have always used K&N (in stick airbox or cone variation [Dinan, GruppeM and many others]) never had any problems, but I do not plan on making any other changes to the car ....sooo, will the OBDII system "relearn" the fuel/air mixture and remap it or will the car run lean?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Scott

If you see a K&N filter for the V8 from *any* supplier it's K&N part number 33-2547 period. http://store.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2547 It costs $38.75 per side and it won't throw a check engine light (your dealer is reaching with that one :thumbup:), it fits perfectly and 33-2547 it was orginally made for the Vauxhaul-Nova/Opel-Corsa. I've been running 33-2547 for 2 years as have many other V8 owners I know, slap 'em in and off you go!

I have used both K&N and ITG filters on my V8 and have never had any issues.The ITG's are possibly slightly quieter than the K&N's but thats it.

no problems with "K&N" so far.... . I've heard that some Jaguars XJS-coupe should also have this dimension fittet. The only thing i noticed is some more nice *surge-sound* with open windows as on my old paper versions before.

Thank you. I had ordered them already and sent them back due to the conversations with K&N and the dealer .... gues I will go and reorder them again.

How hard is it to change?? Dealer or self install? Time?

Thanks,

Scott

It's fairly simple, there's a full guide on LEW http://www.lotusespritworld.com/EGuides/EM...rfilter_V8.html I had one screw that was stripped which made it a pain, but got the job done. Sounds great once you're driving.

It's fairly simple,....

right, as long as you have a spare socket available.... the typical lower screw problem next to the heads

it's :getmecoat: engineering

:getmecoat: I've found a huge improvement with the K&N filters and hi flow cats at the same time. I got mine from PNM with the usual CORRECT advice. What you DON@T want to do is.... drop the front bottom bolt as it falls into a cavity in the chassis and takes all day to retrieve. I think that next time, I will stuff a rag down the gap between the engine and the body as it is so easy to drop that particular screw.

Come to think of it, it would have been much easier if they had put a row of lugs, or a slot or groove for the bottom of the filter housing to engage with the filter box then closing like a door and being held in place by the three top bolts. That way, you would never have to:

1. Struggle with the bottom bolts;

2. Drop one (or more) of the bolts with the struggle to retrieve them, and;

3. Have any concern that the bottom bolts are sufficiently tight without;

4. NIGHTMARE....that sinking feeling when an important and difficult to get to thread in a big and expensive to replace part, starts "turning forever"

Anyway, definitely get some replacement filters!

All good ideas and maybe the LEW filter guide should have these added - I have #4 on one of the bottom bolts, but somehow manager to work around it. A few weeks later I had the plenum off but forgot to change the damn bolt :getmecoat:

When you install the filters don't over-do the application of the supplied oil. Unless your running in a dust storm less oil would be better. On cars like Porsches and Nissans the oil gets into throttle bodies and mass airflow sensors making a mess of things. That being said my K&N's have been installed for 5 yrs with no know problems.

Like others have mentioned...the bottom bolts are a pain in the butt. I placed a rag and other blockades under the housing to prevent an afternoon of frustration. I also stuck clay in the socket for a make shift glue.

Have fun

The ECU takes care of everything, don't worry, drive!

Thank all of you for your responses ... :blush:

Not to sound paranoid, but will the ECU in these cars re-learn to air/fuel mixture so the car will not run lean?

Best,

Scott

Thanks everyone ... just got them and installed them in about 20-30minutes (used the towel to not drop anything). I will drive it, with them in, in the next few days.

Thanks again,

Scott
