A sad end to the day :(

Hi,

I've been using my Esprit quite a lot recently as everything (well nearly everything) is working!

Anyway, I left the car outside my girlfriends last night around 9, at about 11 the door was open

I assumed they just wanted the stereo but then realised they we're after the car. They bent the passenger door frame to gain entry, sorted the ignition, and then there was only the steering lock to break...they must have put so much force into the steering wheel it ended up into their hands snapping the column.

If they hadn't broken the wheel I don't think the car would be with we now, I guess that was just a stroke of luck. The AA relayed me home for a cost of an extra

That is too bad... some people really should be hunted down like animals and dispatched...

Hope it get's sorted soon though. Makes you want to install the for Your Eyes Only anti theft system doesn't it?

Brent, unlucky about the break in!!

Don' let the bastards stop you using it though. Buy a dislok (solid steel full steering wheel cover one only please) and the petty muppet without a clue will walk away as they're a nightmare to do anything with!!!

Commiserations mate. Hard to believe an Esprit would be such a target, vandalism maybe, but what are they going to do with a thieved 80s G Turbo? (apart from trash it).

I thought it was quiet in Dorset!

In the garage no-one can hear you scream

Hi brent,

i hope they catch the gits and crush their nuts in a vice. I would never have thought a G-car as a target. makes you think. bas***ds.

Hope you get her fixed soon and can enjoy her again.

Thanks for the comments guys. I didn't really think it would have been a target either, but it just shows. Unfortunately justice won't be done this time due to the lack of being able to obtain fingerprints, I just wish I could get hold of the b*******!!! On the upside, it could have been a lot worse and lucikly I have spares to fix the damage so I don't have to involve the insurance. I don't think I'll be leaving it anywhere again!

Could have been a lot worse - end of the day its what you pay insurance for, they should be happy in the fact they arn't shelling out for the whole car. Was it alarmed imobilised ?

Ya might condiser some sort of visual deterent (steering locks are good, if nothing else but they are big and yellow).

It's possible they targeted it becuase it was old (nee offence) and wouldn't have likely some sophisticated security.

Just re-think your securty and keep driving it - pain in the ass but at least you still have your car !

Lets hope the crims get whats coming to them in a nasty way.

Hey Brent - nasty work mate. I hope it all gets fixed.

I have heard though that it is very common for thief to re-hit the same house / car etc...so be on your guard. Also, (not intending to alarm your girlfriend), but her garage / car needs to be checked for adequate security.

Hope this helps.

Hi Brent,

Really upsetting to read this. At least you've still got the car. I can only imagine that they wanted it for joyriding, because they'd have a hard job selling such a rare car, particularly with such a tight knit group of owners like we've got here. If they did want it for joyriding, you can guarantee they'd have torched it when they'd had their kicks.

Funny how the cops can get latent prints off just about anything WHEN THEY WANT TO. It makes me mad how they are so keen to close cases without actually solving them. From my own experience, they'd rather close a case citing insufficient evidence than to actually collect evidence and do the job they're paid to do.

Hope everything goes well with the insurance and you're not off the road for long.

Brent,

Sorry to hear of your misadventure. It bites any time someone or something messes with ones property. On top of the damage is the personal feeling of helplessness and of a loss of security, which can be very stressful. Hopefully all will be fixed soon!

Happened to me and Lottie in 1997 when we first moved to the Isle of Man (which annoyingly has remarkably low crime rates). She was parked round the corner from the flat and they tried bending the passenger side window frame, expecting to find a plunger lock I expect - then when they ealised there wasn't one they smashed the quarter glass. The alarm going off must have scared them off, and left me with an expensive repair that didn't really warrant losing my no-claims bonus for.

Prior to that, some Salford scrotes put a brick through the same side window and pinched the radio.

This kind of thing leaves you feeling sick with rage - the authorities would be well advised to stop chasing speeders and parking infringements and put the resources into stopping premeditated anti-social behaviour like this.

Three strike rule - first conviction a hefty fine, second time a jail stretch, third time they lose both hands and have 'pikey scum' tattooed on their heads...

Again, thanks for the comments. I'm still annoyed about it now, but true it could have been a lot worse. First I'm lucky that I still have it, and second I'm glad they didn't key it or torch it after they couldn't take it! Wouldn't mind the steering wheel back tho , it's either in someone's garden (nice find) or on the bas***** mantle piece. Will look out for it on e-bay!

No, it didn't have any security and the flashing light wasn't working at the time as I've been working on some of the electrics, admittedly it was an easy target but thought it would have been safe where it was, otherwise I wouldn't have left it there, it doesn't get left in many places. When you think it's a safe place to leave it, it maybe not ^_^ as you said, it only takes one. It is old and is simple and does make it easy to take unfortunately. I should have got that alarm fitted, only to alert other people, or me!

Hopefully I'll get it back together over the weekend, it shouldn't take to much to sort it thankfully.

Cheers,

Brent.

Hi Brent,

Really a bummer, and it makes one so angry! I am angry on your behalf.

Same sort of thing has happened to me a few times, I end up thinking no matter how much they vandalise I am endlessly better off than these monkeys who, sooner or later, will end their life in misery.

Hope you get it straightened out as quickly as possible, tends to be quickly forgot when all is fixed.
